DOJ Assures Skeptical Judge It Didn’t Do Roger Stone Any Favors To Delay Prison | Talking Points Memo

Stone: The feds won’t agree to extend my reporting date!

Stone’s Lawyers: Actually, the feds totally agree to extend our client’s reporting date.

DOJ: We have a longstanding policy of not making people report to prison.

Put him in jail.

Just DO NOT TEST him for Covid, and he will be fine.

Let me say up front that I think Stone deserves to be in jail, and should have been taken into custody in February…I still don’t know why he wasn’t.

With that said, in the midst of a pandemic is a bad time to put anyone into crowded prisons (watch John Oliver’s recent episode to see why). They should be taking steps to house inmates in other ways that limit them without the crowding. Putting Stone in a hotel room would be one way to do it, or in his own house with amenities stripped away and limits on his movement. Add in constant monitoring and checks for breaking the rules, visitors, etc. Do this for all of the non-violent prisoners…when the pandemic is passed and it’s safe then send them back to jail to serve out the rest of their sentence. There’s more details obviously, but this is the humane way to treat any of the prisoners, and we really should be humane even with garbage like Stone.

And, who are we kidding, Stone is going to get a pardon in November no matter what happens, sticking him under lockdown even in his own home is probably the best we will get for his “punishment”. We can hope he decides his pardon grants him the freedom to do bad things during the Biden administration, which will not hold back in prosecuting him.

I doubt the judge is so dumb as to fall for this whopper.

Exactly. If we’re going to give this to some, it needs to be given to all. Prisoners, regardless of their race, creed, etc., including friend of Trump status, should be treated equally in the face of the virus. Save some, save all.

How many other federal criminals have been permitted delays reporting to jail?

Dogs, this X 1,000.

BOP is no longer extending surrender dates so they have determined the problem is over (s/ or more likely pressure from dt etc).

Let Stone start squawking and force dt to pardon him.

If dt had a brain in his head he would just commute the sentence and move on now.

Can anyone point to any reasons why we should believe anything the DOJ says?

One can only wonder how in the world this was redacted initially. Hard to imagine.
