Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita (R) may be facing a defamation lawsuit after he attacked an Indiana doctor on live television, making since-debunked allegations related to an abortion she performed on a 10-year-old rape victim.
The doctor is a private citizen and I was shocked that a public official would make such allegations in such a public and reckless way. I wonder if the lawsuit will be against him only in his official capacity or also as a private citizen with large megaphone. We shall wait and see. I hope that Indiana law allows for both and that Ms. Delaney cleans his clock.
What good is high office, if you can’t use your position to harm others with whom you disagree. The AGs spokesperson still claims to have done nothing wrong. If the AG is looking for a fight, bring shock and awe.
another entry in the parade of horribles. We know there are people whom the law protects but does not bind, and people who the law binds but does not protect. I hope the law protects this doctor but the fact that I have my doubts is a sad comment on the USA.
While I would like that - Does anyone know what are the ethics rules in Indiana? Inquiring minds would like to know which part of the code of ethics or Rules of Professional Conduct he violated in order to file a bar complaint. I am all for holding lying lawyers to account.
“intends to seek damages for security costs, legal fees, reputational harm, and emotional distress” caused by the attorney general’s smear campaign against the doctor.
