DNI Warns For The First Time That Russia Wants To Damage Biden In The 2020 Election | Talking Points Memo

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, would not say last week whether he took information from Derkach. House Democrats raised the issue after finding a DHL receipt for documents from the Ukrainian parliamentarian.

Opsec is hard, isn’t it, Devin?

I’d say Trump and the GOP have ticked all the boxes. If Trump wins, it’s just a matter of time. This election is not just a referendum on Trump, it’s a referendum on America.

  1. The cult of tradition. “One has only to look at the syllabus of every fascist movement to find the major traditionalist thinkers. The Nazi gnosis was nourished by traditionalist, syncretistic, occult elements.”
  2. The rejection of modernism. “The Enlightenment, the Age of Reason, is seen as the beginning of modern depravity. In this sense Ur-Fascism can be defined as irrationalism.”
  3. The cult of action for action’s sake. “Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation.”
  4. Disagreement is treason. “The critical spirit makes distinctions, and to distinguish is a sign of modernism. In modern culture the scientific community praises disagreement as a way to improve knowledge.”
  5. Fear of difference. “The first appeal of a fascist or prematurely fascist movement is an appeal against the intruders. Thus Ur-Fascism is racist by definition.”
  6. Appeal to social frustration. “One of the most typical features of the historical fascism was the appeal to a frustrated middle class, a class suffering from an economic crisis or feelings of political humiliation, and frightened by the pressure of lower social groups.”
  7. The obsession with a plot. “The followers must feel besieged. The easiest way to solve the plot is the appeal to xenophobia.”
  8. The enemy is both strong and weak. “By a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak.”
  9. Pacifism is trafficking with the enemy. “For Ur-Fascism there is no struggle for life but, rather, life is lived for struggle.”
  10. Contempt for the weak. “Elitism is a typical aspect of any reactionary ideology.”
  11. Everybody is educated to become a hero. “In Ur-Fascist ideology, heroism is the norm. This cult of heroism is strictly linked with the cult of death.”
  12. Machismo and weaponry. “Machismo implies both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality.”
  13. Selective populism. “There is in our future a TV or Internet populism, in which the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and accepted as the Voice of the People.”
  14. Ur-Fascism speaks Newspeak. “All the Nazi or Fascist schoolbooks made use of an impoverished vocabulary, and an elementary syntax, in order to limit the instruments for complex and critical reasoning.”

The bit about the impoverished vocabulary is striking.

Russia wants to destroy America. Trump is just the easiest way to do it.

They’ve already taken our tattered moral standing in the world, and that attendant value. They’re doing the same to the UK, and in exactly the same manner.

Choking our population with the bullshit the Right Wing has been stuffing down the throats of the most easily led for decades.

They could see the machine, they just had to goose it.

Sens. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) are running an investigation that drives at much of the same themes found in the Russian government-sponsored efforts…

The Five Stages of GOP Grief:

  1. "Nobody is conspiring with the Kremlin!"

  2. “Not everybody is conspiring with the Kremlin!”

  3. "Some of those in the Kremlin are very fine people!"

  4. “Democrats are worse than the Kremlin!”

  5. “OK – we’re the Kremlin!”

So the real question in this election is do Americans want Vladimir Putin to remain the most powerful man in America or will we vote for someone else.

How did he find out? Did he listen in on one of Trump and Putin’s phone calls?

Exactly. The news is here is that China may wind up cancelling out Russia’s attempts to help Trump. I’m not happy that any country is interfering in our elections, but at least it’s not all one sided this time. Sigh.

Who wants who to win is not the issue. Every foreign power has favored one candidate or the other in every presidential election ever.

Who is illegally interfering in the election, who is spreading lies and misinformation on social media, and who is being abetted by the candidate himself–those are the real issues.

I hope the news media focus on the real issues. WaPo this afternoon is off to a very poor start, parroting the bothsiderist message that is an obvious attempt to distract from what truly matters.

This afternoon’s Post headline, “China wants Trump defeated and Russia is denigrating Biden, top intelligence official says,” is a sugar-coated gift for the Trump operation. It actually reads as if the Chinese are more invested in the election results than Russia is. This is bullshit.

This is all the proof I needed that my supposition that Putin has given up on Trump and is supporting Biden is correct.

It sounds to me like they are equating China being openly upset about tik tok with Russia using fake aliases, hacking and all the other things we have actually caught the doing.

Worse than useless.

They did warn Obama. And he took it to the Gang of Eight.

Where Mitch McConnell told them to pound sand.

If Obama went fully public McConnell threatened he would turn and say the White House was misusing intelligence just to hurt Trump. That was a fight Obama, coupled with Trump saying if he lost then the election was rigged, and that he may not accept the election results - with a crap-ton of Reich-wingers agreeing with him - wanted to avoid.

McConnell chose Party over the national interest. Again.

Yes, this! It is entirely immaterial who one foreign state or the other wants to win the election. Everybody already knows that russian agents/bots, and no doubt bots from other states are hip deep in our social media. What is not being said is the most important part: are foreign actors in our ballot boxes? Have they figured out a way to hack our vote numbers? What, if anything (!) is the government doing to prevent them from skewing actual results?

And we’re all supposed to take Chuck at his word that his hand wasn’t in the borscht bowl. Christ, I wish he and Kim “ILL” Reynolds were on the ballot this year.

Also it gets clicks. NYT has some of the most bizarre headlines, in part, because they often don’t reflect well the facts presented in the article itself.

“Sens. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) are running an investigation that drives at much of the same themes found in the Russian government-sponsored efforts…”

You really need to read that sentence 2 or 3 times. What is being said is that Chuck Grassley is a Russian tool and that Grassley is conducting a disinformation campaign similar to that of the Russians. Grassley is the President Pro Tem of the Senate - the third person in line to take the Presidency - should something happen to POTUS.

Grassley claims to seek the truth, but still hasn’t read the Mueller report. Grassley is working with a Guiliani associate - Ukrainian Andriy Derkach (a KGB graduate) and has been for well over a year. This fact should be deeply disturbing to all Americans, regardless of party!
