The Democratic National Convention Committee on Wednesday announced that it’s scaling back its convention scheduled in late August as COVID-19 cases spike in several cities.
Hmm if Trump’s RNC convention(s) kill off 30-40% percent of the Republicans in attendance can he still be considered a legal candidate since delegates that voted him may now be dead?
Yup, the democratic platform should have as article one:
“we promise not to put the public health, your heath, any place but first.
We promise not to hold rallies to feed our candidate’s small ego at the risk of public health.
We promise not to allow grannie to die to push up stock market returns in the short term.
We promise always to think like adults, and not try to win the news cycle.
We will keep you safe, and not turn over our national security to the Chinese for some soybean purchases or to Russia and the Saudis for a few cheap bank loans to our candidate’s private businesses.”
So, really. As a former resident of the Milwaukee area (prior to 2012), I have absolutely NO IDEA where any of this was supposed to take place, nor where any of this is now supposed to take place. I just cannot imagine that any of this will be successful. Can someone from the DNC think this through, and come up with a fucking plan? Yes, Biden is our only path going forward, but I just wish the DNC was part of it! Seriously.
I think I said this already: Can someone from the DNC think this through, and come up with a fucking plan ? Yes, Biden is our only path going forward, but I just wish the DNC was part of it!
I could see each state having 3-10 attendees (bascically 10-15% of the delegates). Then huge TV screens. Delgates who are not there in person can be on Zoom.
Not really a lot else you can do. TV can cover the speeches just like usual, just not a sea of delegates.
The business part of the convention is going to happen by videoconference. Whether they will use Zoom or WebEx or Teams or something else, I don’t know.
DNC Chairman Tom Perez said in a statement. “I couldn’t be prouder of the way our team has organized and mobilized to get out the vote and ensure a successful convention anchored in Wisconsin, and I’m grateful for the extraordinary leadership of our partners in the city of Milwaukee.
The DNC has one huge advantage for a mostly-virtual convention, and this is the fact that almost all the current Pop stars and Hollywood stars support the Democratic party. They can intersperse campaign events with remote testimonials and performances from stars who everyone knows (except me because I’m old… “Lady Ga-who?”).
I wish politics didn’t work this way. The candidate should speak for him or herself and that should be enough, but this is the modern era where people pay attention to this stuff.
The RNC has nothing to counter that kind of remote-login showbiz glitz. Just some washed-up Country acts supporting Trump. And Ted Nugent if he’s still alive.
