Dixie Chicks Rename Themselves | Talking Points Memo

The Dixie Chicks are ready to make nice.

The platinum-selling, Grammy-winning country trio is dropping the “dixie” in their name after facing criticism over the term — a commonly used nickname to describe the Civil War-era South. The group announced the move as nationwide protests emerged in the wake of George Floyd’s death, prompting a movement to remove Confederate statues and memorials of other historical figures linked to racism.

Good for them, but “Chicks” is pretty much sexist.

They’ve been screwed over so many times by so many I really feel for them.

Dixie Cups, can’t be too far behind. Maybe they’ll go back to the company’s original name Individual Drinking Cup Company.

Duh Chicks, might have been better.

Owned by you-know-who now. Fucking Koch Bros. or brother since the other one up and died finally. My guess is they don’t plan to change a thing.

Yeah I’ve tried to stop buying anything Koch produces. I’m almost done with the last package of Dixie Cups.
:wink:I’m doing it for the environment.

And really it’s time for the entire South to start calling itself the Not North. No more nibbling at the edges here.

They should rename themselves Los Chicas. That would blow what ever is left of Rump’s remaining grey matter.

Maybe it doesn’t flow, but they should have released at least one album as “The Not Treasonous Loser Chicks” just for the heck of it.

Dixie Cups is taken.

“Chapel of Love,” anybody?

“The Base” will have a problem here: they already stopped buying their stuff because of what they said about W, and now they may have to go buy more stuff so that they can burn it and stop buying their stuff again.
Well played, Chicks!

Fun fact: Southern Comfort is way ahead of these people and companies. They didn’t change their name but they took off a picture of the Woodland Plantation in LA from their bottles in 2010 from what I read. Now that’s only 10 years ago but clearly they were onto something way ahead of the rest.

Old bottle…

New bottle.

Can’t wait to see Grantville, Florida, although General Jackson fans won’t be too happy.

The country trio’s move comes after country group, Lady Antebellum, renamed themselves “Lady A” earlier this month.

Good on you, Chicks! Good on you.

Hope the Dixie Chicks actually had their publicists actually check whether the new name was taken…

I hear that the name “Lady Antebellum” is now available.

I saw the Dixie Chicks playing a backyard party in Austin, pre-Natalie Maines.

I am old.

Figures… I know people in the publishing and publicity world, they do have staff that are supposed to be checking on things like names to be sure they’re not stepping on someone else’s turf.
