Oh I agree with your point entirely. It’s human nature to rationalize, justify, and hopefully find some sort of vindication in previous mistakes. The problem of course is that the consequences of most peoples mistakes, errors in judgement, willfully blindness, etc. aren’t typically responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of human beings, the physical and emotional wounding of millions more, and the lasting damage to nations and peoples (particularly Iraq and the United States, the former in more direct and obvious ways, the later in more subtle and less obvious).

What could be rougher than mAnn. (I’ve heard the same stories, also too. Mentions of uses for raw eggs well beyond making a soufflé or omelet)

Stop Talking About Iraq Already!

Iraq? Stop talking about everything! Is there any subject that Republicans talk about where they are not completely wrong or intentionally misleading?

We might as well re-litigate Iraq. We all know who kicked the hornest’s nest and we all know who is advocating going back in to that nest. This is a winner for Democrats, if we have the spine to behave like adults. I suggest we open our doors to Iraqi immigrants. Our culture has been greatly enriched by those who fled Vietnam. It’s the least we can do - and I mean the least.

Saying the claim of weapons of mass destruction was a "dud’ is the understatement of the millennium. Whoever wrote that needs to go back to journalism school or high school or some school for Gods sake. Minimizing the purposeful spreading of disinformation on that level with the resulting loss of human life and destruction of families is unconscionable. Damn that pisses me off.

Absolutely. For most people, the things we try to rationalize and justify are things like drinking too much at a party (I didn’t eat dinner, the host was pouring drinks with a heavy hand, etc.) or lying about something (“I knew you were lying to me, that’s why I lied to you”). But on the big things, decent people own their mistake. You own your mistake, apologize profusely, do whatever you can to make up for it (even if you there’s no much you can do) and do better next time. Not the neocons. Just as they looked for a rationalization for invading Iraq, they’re now looking for vindication. Not. Gonna. Happen.

I’m afraid there’s long precedent for this kind of “logic” in the form of “supply-side economics.” It’s been proven for many a year that this theory does not work, and yet conservatives keep trying to push it on this country, like Bullwinkle reaching into the top hat yelling, “THIS TIME FOR SURE!”

Why, oh why tpm am I allowed only one like. The fact that the dynamically-evil duo cannot leave the country while screeching about how Obama has lessened the stature of the country makes up a tiny, microscopic amount for the damage they’ve done…but it’s something.
