Discussion for article #222713

*Reading his take on it, you would think the kids were assigned to read Fifty Shades of Gray, but in truth, the book isn’t enough to make your average grandmother blush, much less Hugh Hefner. *

This statement elevates Fifty Shades of Gray to a status it doesn’t deserve - that of a book with interesting sex scenes.

Color me unsurprised that a FoxNewser is aroused by a scene involving a young woman being raped. He should be investigated.

Opposition to school reading materials at board meetings is as old as dirt. Only the players change.

Let’s face it. These wingers just aren’t very smart.

As “white” birth rates throughout the world drop below replacement level, you might think that RWNJs, who also tend to be a little bit racist, would be promoting more sex for all white post-pubescents.

I’ve heard kids say, “That wasn’t violent! There was no blood!” Which is pretty messed up, but they were kids and they can be educated.

This Baer creep is terminally warped.

I guess these ‘good Christians’ didn’t actually READ the Bible they tout. Adam and Eve? I’m pretty sure they didn’t have some ‘smutty book’ to lead them astray…

But the objections from Baer and Starnes have nothing to do with the violence depicted at all. Indeed, it’s clear from their take on it that they don’t even understand that penetrating a woman who is protesting and clamping your hand over her mouth to shut her up while you finish, which is what the male character in the scene does, constitutes a rape, both legally and morally. It’s not supposed to be arousing in the slightest, but horrifying.

They don’t see the horror but they do see the sex.

Am I unreasonable to wonder if either this is what they think sex is or does this arouse them and in denial they transfer it?

Either is pretty scary.

Edit: Having finished the article it dawned on me that this isn’t so much an issue of moral bankruptcy but one of disempowering women through controlling information. How is this different than the Taliban attempting to ban education for girls?

Pleasure of any sort is evil.

Thanks for writing this article. It is a topic that I have been struck by for many years. We have loads of violence on TV and in movies, but I don’t see the so called Christian Right having a fit about the violence as they have with sexuality. It seems OK to fantasize about killing someone in a multitude of ways, but God forbid you imagine engaging in a sexual act. But I’m not really surprise anymore by the behavior of social conservatives. We will see more and more boorish behavior out of social conservatives as their agenda is further marginalize by the public.

I read once (don’t remember where, so I can’t cite it)that somebody asked Reagan about “The Godfather” when it came out. He was generally very positive about it, all kinds of plotting and backstabbing and cool stuff like that, but there was one scene that upset him.

Moe Greene getting a bullet in the eye? No. Sonny being gunned down, at length? No.

It was the scene where Michael & Apollonia are on their wedding night and she exposes her breasts. Ronnie thought that was disgusting and shouldn’t have been included.

I’ve always thought that explained a lot about conservatives…

Oh, they are – but only after marriage, and only once. (That’s al it takes to get pregnant, right?)

This in not news, right wing conservatives have always been big proponents of censorship, as a retired librarian I have to say this has always been the case. Behind every book banning or burning is a fascist.

The guys bitching the most are the ones trying to make money off of a saucy subject that they know the faithful dummies will send in cash for.

That’s about all there is to it.

The scary part to me is these RWNJs vote. This is where the Tea party come from.

I started to look into the foregoing and I got side-tracked uncovering St, Ronald engaging here in statutory rape with 15-year-old Elizabeth Taylor. Presumably Gipper disgusted himself that time, the sanctimonious prig?

Seems there is some pretty sick sex in the Bible (Lot and his daughters for example)… so I agree that the Bible should certainly be kept away from anyone under the age of 21.

Beat me to it… I should have read the thread before posting about that little bit of twisted sex where Lot’s daughters get him drunk so they could try and get pregnant by him to repopulate the world after the destruction of Sodom.
