Discussion for article #222653
I find it hard to believe that we have not been able to make teenagers stop having sex by spending a billion dollars wagging our collective finger at them and saying “naughty, naughty.”
And on some conservative blog somewhere, some neanderthal is saying “No wonder the teen pregnancy rate is down. They’re all having abortions.”
“If teen pregnancy is not an epidemic social crisis in the U.S., why are we still talking about it like it is?”
Because Benghazi???
Perhaps because you could reduce the teen pregnancy rate in the US by 50% and it would still be appallingly high.
The data’s old, but here’s UNICEF’s international comparison. Check the chart on page three in particular. US 52 teenage births per 1000. Switzerland 5.5. No other coutnry in the study above 30.8 (UK).
There’s still some work to be done.
Shame is never the answer…That is a religious control point like guilt from the Dark ages…being used by the foolish in the 21st Century…Never going to fly!
Well, maybe if they weren’t so damn “emotional”. I mean, just look at the poor girl in the picture. Fifteen minutes figuring out TPM’s new commenting system and the poor girl’s falling apart.
