Fine, just as long as all other Federal programs are also refused to the State wanting to refuse the refugees. Yes, that would include all Federal monies, as well as using Federal agencies like the FBI, the IRS, all branches of the military and of course Social Security and Medicare.

Cruz is guilty here of using the same technique with which he reads his Bible. Pick and choose.

They are absolutely ENRAGED that the International Rescue Committee or the federal government did not cave like they were supposed to.

A bill put forward by someone so well-liked by his colleagues will surely pass by Friday.

You’d think Texas would be able to just cobble together a secession bill…

During a press conference with Abbott on Capitol Hill Tuesday, Cruz announced legislation that would allow governors to opt out of the federal refugee resettlement program if the they believe the federal government is not up to the task of vetting refugees.

"I disagree with that proposal," Cruz said during a press conference on Capitol Hill Tuesday. “I believe we need a plan that is focused on the direct threat.”

Just so its clear, someone should ask Cruz if this strong belief in the tenth amendment can really solve this problem. You know like a reporter…

My thought exactly! It might have a chance if Cruz had not alienated pretty much every Pubbie Senator. Heck, even those who would like to vote for it would likely trash his bill merely out of spite and await another similar bill introduced by another Pubbie.

The logic of this whole thing is crazy. “Syrian refugees may be terrorists so we want to keep them out of our state until we get promises from the feds that they are 100% safe”.

As far as I know nobody who has done anything has been a refugee. Even in Paris almost all of the guys were from Europe. In the US one was a citizen and the wife came over on a spusal visa. Nothing to do with refugees. If anything the visa system with the EU and other places should be tightened. How, I have no idea. You cannot tell this sort of thing often.

And wanting total assurance on anything is just not possible. Somebody could come through legally and twenty years from then shoot somebody that was cheating with his wife. No way the system would pick that up, but the guy still broke the law.

The only people who get a benefit of a doubt to these guys are white gun owners. Or really anybody that wants to use a gain in principle, because they do not want to restrict anybodies rights.

““America is a charitable nation, but we cannot allow charity for some to compromise the safety for all,” Abbot said.”

The Cowardice of Convenience or the Convenience of Cowardice? You decide.

This bill is more then fifty years overdue; just imagine, if we had barred the entry of Canadian/Cuban refugees back in the 60’s, we wouldn’t have to listen to this moron’s braying. As others have noted, l’il Teddy has shit the bed with a majority of his colleagues; my prediction is that this legislation is DOA. Hopefully, the same applies to this mean little man’s Presidential ambitions. Face it, “Rafael,” NOBODY likes you!

Cruz, Abbott, and the rest of the GOP agree with one another. 30 States have Rep Govs, and 31 States said they will not take refugees.

So it seems to me that we have a problem larger than TX.

Indeed. Some of those refugees might have been Communist plants. Or just assholes. Oh, wait…

Can someone please explain to Mr. Cruz that states do not have walls between them. A refugee or anyone could easily settle in any of the surrounding states and then simply cross the border into Texas. This legislation is a farce.

" Cruz announced legislation that would allow governors to opt out of the federal refugee resettlement program if the they believe the federal government is not up to the task of vetting refugees…"

If Oregon’s governor believes that guns are a danger to public heath can she outlaw them from being sold here?

If Oregon’s governor ***believe***s that too many Texans are moving here can she ban them from crossing the border?

If Washington’s governor believes that Californians are moving to Seattle and buying up all the good used Volvos can he restrict them to buying only used Chevrolets?

If KansASS’ goobernor believes that aliens from planet Trafalgamar are taking human form and voting as Demmicraps can he bannish the Armadillos on which they feed.

I believe there might be endless possibilities here Theodore.
