Discussion:

I need some clarification from Senator Vitter:
Should I be more of Syrian refugees, or illegal Mexican immigrants?
Thanks in advance,

Just when you think the guy couldn’t get any scumbaggier.

What is wrong with the voters in LA? Vitter, Jindal? Are they all this ignorant?

If cognitive dissonance was lethal, the entirety of the “conservative” movement and millions of Republicans would have already kicked the bucket.

Nice to know that Vitter ’ Christian forgiveness’ ad did wonders…

Purely as a matter of practical politics, Edwards displays the consistent flaw that virtually all Democrats do: a failure to act quickly, decisively, and aggressively when it comes to message framing. Invariably, the lazy inactivity of Democrats enables the Republican to frame the debate and establish their messaging, and the Democrat is then in the position of having to defend and play catch-up. Regardless of what Edwards does now, he’s firmly cemented in the minds of Louisiana voters as being soft on Syrian terrorism.

What Edwards should have done as soon as possible after the attacks happened was run an ad appearing in all Louisiana markets forcefully stating, “Saturday, immediately after the attacks on Paris, I called for a complete stop to the entry of Syrian refugees in Louisiana. When David Vitter had the opportunity to actually make something happen, he didn’t. He has missed every important Senate hearing on this issue. Louisiana already has an absentee governor, and now it seems our absentee Senator failed to do his duty as well. I promise to look after the safety of all Louisianians.”

Making the same point in an emailed statement is pathetically inadequate, and it’s just another instance of the criminally incompetent DNC, which should be directly coordinating with all Democratic candidates for governor anywhere in the country. A competent DNC would have been on the phone to every Democrat pointing out the necessity of getting ahead on this new issue, and would have provided money and manpower to assist any Democratic candidate who needed it.

The DNC was otherwise occupied with a post-debate cocktail party celebrating its success in getting 8.5 million to watch the broadcast.

“You should vote for me because I’m a coward.”

Why not, it’s worked before.

Is DiaperDavy not aware that President Obama cannot run for a 3rd term? And using Obama’s in vain is not a viable argument.

Clever Idea---------get Michelle to form an exploratory committee…

Form a Dead Pool as to who goes first among the TeaPub wannabes…

Excellent point that I missed on my first reading regarding Edwards’ emailed statement v. running a powerful ad in response. Ditto on your DNC remarks–I can’t think of them w/o also thinking of the Washington Generals, the Harlem Globetrotters’ perennial, hapless opponent.

I’m picturing the end of the movie “Kingsman”, where everyones head just explodes.

Let’s see…a Saturday run-off election in a deep red southern state days after a horrible terrorist attack.

Anyone who thinks Vitter won’t win this thing handily is simply denying the reality of modern American electoral politics. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t get at least 60% of the vote.

If David Vitter is so concerned that some of those 14 Syrian refugees in Louisiana might have connections to ISIS, he need merely ask his wife Wendy, after all, she serves as General Council to the Archdiocese of New Orleans, who helped settle those refugees in Louisiana through the local branch of Catholic Charities!

I won’t bet on that, Edwards has a double digit lead in the polls, and many people voted already in early voting before the Paris story broke.

If Vitter consulted his wife, Wendy, who is general counsel for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans, he would learn that Catholic Charities, under the oversight of her boss, Archbishop Gregory Aymond, has handled the resettlement of Syrian refugees already in Louisiana. Despite numbers in the thousands which have been promulgated on right wing sites, Syrian refugees in the state now number 14.

C’mon, Dave, put your big boy diapers on and grow up.

Kudos. You beat me to the punch.

I truly hope you’re correct and that I am wrong. But I live in Georgia, where we got our hopes up with Nunn in 2014, only to find we were way far off. My concern is not that Edwards lacks support but that the supporters won’t show up. You know how fickle Dems are in off-year elections, while Republicans always show up. But, Vitter is a truly viscerally unappealing character, so perhaps there is hope.
