Kudos to Ken Burns for speaking to truth.

Wow. This was an awesome interview. Having a firm grasp of history is a nice counterbalance to myopia.

“You know, I’ve heard of this Ken Burns guy, he makes those long, boring documentaries they show on taxpayer-funded TV. In fact, I once thought about hiring him to make a movie about me and my success in life. Well, he’s got no class when he says I’m racist.”

Wow. Imagine if the Sunday morning blabfests had 3 Ken Burns for every one of those rightwing political shills on those shows every week. Imagine the reality-based education the country would be treated to by way of actual American history and its relevance today. Maybe even a good dose of tolerance, as a public service, for others so marginalized in this country, could be thrown in as a bonus. I know, I’m dreaming…

Instead, for the last 15+ years, 3 Republican shills for every leftwing spokesperson, is given a seat on those awful shows, made worse due to their political pandering and scripted talking points. They dominate those shows incessantly.

I remember how the corporate media justified its choices and told critical media watchers that when GWB left office, we would see that change. That the only reason so many Bushies and Republicans were represented was because they were in charge of the Executive Branch. But of course, that never happened. Today, the tables have yet to be turned and even equal representation on those shows has still eluded them. We still get nothing but rightwing claptrap on all those shows for the most part.

I can hear the GOP push back now, “I’m not an historian, but what I know…”.

Glad Ken Burns is out there saying what he’s saying because after all these years, the history of slavery still hasn’t seemed to seep into the heads of a very, very large part of this country.

Well, this is quite ironic. If I remember correctly when the series first aired, critic said that Burn’s’ five-part series skimmed over slavery. I think when confronted, Burns actually said to have an episode on the issue would have been “boring.”

Ken, I think there’s nothing polite with the “birtherism” directed at Obama. There is nothing polite about racism and that is what this is. Here we have a man born in Hawaii but because he had a black father he had a crowd of crazy folk saying he was born in Kenya and therefore couldn’t be POTUS. Yet one of the GOP candidates says because he had a mom born in Delaware he is an American notwithstanding that he CLEARLY was born in Canada. Exactly the scenario they accused Obama of yet it’s cool and the candidate is “good to go”.
There is nothing polite about racism.

This at least clears up the question as to whether a bad hair piece is the source of Trumps crazy thoughts.

Yep… Feel the Burn(s)…

Just read South Carolina’s Articles of Succession. The Right is going to heap lots of hate on Ken Burns, but the man does his homework.Who should we believe? Ken Burns and South Carolina’s Articles of Succession or today’s GOP?

BTW, the Right will claim to hate on Burns because of the Birther comments, not the historical facts.

America is not a post-racial society because of President Barack Obama’s election, he said.

As every white person knows because we hear what white people say when no non-whites are around.

a) No shit

b) I don’t know what I was expecting, but that’s totally not what I thought Ken Burns would look like

I’m honestly surprised you’ve never seen Ken Burns. He’s not a hermit by any means, interviews with him are commonly aired whenever his material airs.

Mississippi’s, too. But, you know, “heritage”.
