Discussion for article #238666

My jaw just hit the floor.

Are you kidding me?!! Braindead jerk!

Berger got into a legal battle with the department after it ordered him to stop performing in blackface in 1982, when members of the local chapter of the NAACP complained to police officials and picketed one of Berger’s scheduled performances at a downtown hotel. Berger sued to have the department lift the on his blackface performances, but was fired when he refused to drop the act after losing his case in 1984.

Then he was reinstated and won a $200,000 settlement in 1991.

Today, he’d be out on his racist butt, and any money would come from a GoFundMe account. At least publicly, the police union is distancing itself from him.

So some progress, I guess, in Baltimore. Maybe. Except for the police involved in Gray’s death.

Do these guys think anything out? The point in the Freddie Gray case is he’s dead because he was Black. That the Cops had no respect for him because he was Black. And how does this help? It reinforces people’s belief it was racism that got Freddie killed. Hell it’s almost a confession.

Bingo. Or maybe it helps if you’re the right kind of depraved creep.

I thought I’d seen everything, but…

Hey, SCOTUS says racism is over.

On a unrelated matter, ā€œI’ve been through what they’re going through and I know they need the help. Look at yourself as having a wife and two kids and a mortgage and school payments and everything that comes with it, and a guy comes up to your desk and says, ā€˜We’ve got to let you go.’ How do you survive?ā€

Buddy, many of us didn’t survive the Great Recession, and lost our jobs. It wasn’t because we were assholes, like you.

ā€œthese guysā€ and ā€œthink anything outā€ do not belong in the same sentence.

I wonder if he has to put any work into being a total asshole, or does it come natural?

Wait, what?? This is ā€œhelpingā€?

ā€œI’ve been through what they’re going through and I know they need the help,ā€

What those officers "need’ is not your sort of help. They need prison time. But, - thanks anyway.

If they hadn’t killed Freddie Gray, they wouldn’t be having these problems. I have no sympathy.

One of the most entertaining posts all day. I think the piece shows a man with a couple of different issues: his own experience of being fired that he’s obviously still working out, his being an apologist and fund-raiser for the defendants in the Gray case, his sincere belief that what he’s doing hasn’t one iota of racism to it. And he might be right about this one, if his is a passion for Al Jolsen, and his performance a sincere attempt to emulate an icon he may love. Who’s to say? But any art he may be living in his life doesn’t comport well with who he’s defending and how, especially in todays environment. And that’s no small point. But I really want to know how long the dude had been doing the blackface act and why. Closet Vaudevillian? I want to know about the REAL Homey the Frosty Cakehole. The article leaves me wanting.

Edit> Why the blackface Jolsen? And brother, police work was probably a bad choice too.

Don’t overthink this.

  1. Freddie Gray is dead because he was black.
  2. This guy wants to support officers responsible for his death.
  3. He stages fundraiser underlining racist contempt for blacks.

I don’t see anything incoherent or illogical here.

This year’s Policeman’s Ball will be a minstrel show. No better way to mend racial relations.

Idiots!

Umm. This is a real headline, right? I mean the daily show writers didn’t leave Jon Stewart early and set up some bogus news blog, right?
