as they fall all over themselves to defend John McCain do they understand the irony of denigrating John Kerry’s war record during his Presidential run?

I think it might cross their minds, but I doubt they’d admit to it or that they care. Now, if any of the higher-ups in the GOP ranks admit to this, I’ll be the first to give them kudos.

As a candidate for President, Trump’s remarks make no sense. As a troll, they make perfect sense. I’m getting more and more convinced he’s the latter and not the former.

your theory makes a lot of sense. I can say McCain is a bit dim, and getting shot down repeatedly and caught isn’t really a qualification for much of anything, but I don’t pretend to be a presidential candidate.
but I don’t buy it. I think having no verbal filter has worked for trump in the past and he is just being himself.

Anyone think our crack press corps (excluding TPM) will think to ask them?

Trump just provided the GOP an out.

They were struggling to find ways to condemn Trump without fully embracing immigration/Latinos (which would alienate the people Trump was firing up). I think Reince Priebus (sp?) and the other GOP contenders knew that even as he was riling up the base, he was damaging the brand. And how do you repair the brand without rejecting this newly riled-up base? They were struggling for ways to fully attack him.

Now, they can easily condemn him and try to marginalize him. Already, Perry and I believe Lindsey Graham have essentially said he should drop out of the race or that he has essentially lost now.

And let’s not forget Max Cleland.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!! Spreading rumors that Sen. McCain fathered an interracial child with a prostitute and that his time in the Hanoi Hilton made him crazy. My God a man like that should NEVER be president! Ahhh, the good old days …

Trump said Gramps McCain hadn’t done enough for vets. Well OK. What has Trump done except pontificate?

My gawwd’ I am so loving the massive amounts of embarrassment and pain The Donald is heaping on the Republicans.

Precisely. Meanwhile Meet the Press is probably on line one with their buddy McCain now to continue his record of most appearances for a losing presidential candidate.

I’m not going to denegrate McCain’s military service, and, as a matter of fact, I could overlook and forgive many of his actions as a candidate for president as embarrassing, cowardly and yet necessary actions he took to secure the nomination…BUT…I will never, never____never forgive him for inflicting The Half-Baked Alaskan on the psyche of this republic…never!

Wow. Republican candidates are quick to slam Trump over his disparagement of McCain (who arguably is deserving of the criticism), but it took them weeks to call him out for his vile remarks about Mexican immigrants. Pretty telling.
