Shorter David Smith, “If you tell people you are in the militia and they start cowering in fear, you have achieved exactly what you intended.”
Vin Diesel’s a member. That’s good enough for me.
Thanks. Is there anyone down there telling Pecos Paul Revere that? Or is it another “he said/he said” on the local news?
Nut: “I am a legal militiaman.”
Texas Constitutional Scholar: “You’re not.”
Dave Blowdried: “There you have it folks, the debate.”
Looks to me like a wanna-be-army boys’ club that takes itself WAY too seriously.
I looked up Texas Government Code section 431. It does indeed provide for a reserve militia, but it is nothing like what this wing nut describes. Instead of being a standing body recognized by the county, " ‘Reserve militia’ means the persons liable to serve, but not serving, in the state military forces." The law provides that the Governor can draft those people into the active military: “The reserve militia is not subject to active military duty, except that the governor may call into service the portion of the reserve militia needed for the period required in case of war, insurrection, invasion or prevention of invasion, suppression of riot, tumult, or breach of peace or to aid civil officers to execute law or serve process.”
To sum up, reserve militia is a term that describes those people who the Governor of the State of Texas can draft into “Texas National Guard, the Texas State Guard, and any other active militia or military force organized under state law.”
By its definition, the reserve militia is NOT a standing force. It is simply a pool of citizens that can be ordered into the Texas National Guard or Texas State Guard. There would have to be a separate authorizing statute to create an “active militia.” This amateur lawyer has cited no law that authorizes the existence of the Orange County Militia.
Yeah, that logo really cinches it.
Actually, I encourage the formation of groups of trained people who can be used to help out in the case of btural disasters and such. I don’t see why they should be armed, however. The number of scenarios where that would be useful is pretty close to zero.
The county of course will vote for the militia, it is Texas!
This guy is just hoping for the chance to kill someone.
I saw on the local news this morning a police officer who is a veteran encouraging other veterans to join the police force because they “were trained to do the same thing.” Yeah, if you consider trained to kill your enemies the same as serving as a peace officer.
First thing: the name - “Golden Triangle.” Really? The name of the area in the Mekong Delta leading the world in opium production in S.E. Asia? Dumb.
Second and more importantly, have men now days forgotten how to be actual real men? I mean, what the heck is up with all of these wannabees and mid-life crisis tools? These fools didn’t get enough of this in the army? I did. Let’s dress up and play soldier! Or let’s buy a Harley and pretend to be a bad-ass biker! How about getting a CCL and strapping it up and pretending to be Wyatt freaking Earp. Jesus…
Actually, I believe is “Large Adult Revolution Demonstration” or LARD for short…
Just want to point out that Vidor is in Orange county. According to the wikipedia
The racial makeup of the city was 97.33% White, 0.07% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.66% from other races, and 1.21% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.49% of the population.
It is white, even for Orange county. It is also notable because its history has had the Klan entangled with it for a very long time. Just google ‘Bloddy Vidor’. I wonder how many militia mmbers hail from Vidor?
It has been called the Golden Triangle for decades. I wouldn’t be surprised if the name preceeded that of th Mekong Delta.
If the stigma of “militia” is such a barrier, then call yourselves something else. Maybe the Citizens’ Orange County Keepers. C.O.C.K. rises to any occasion! There, I wrote your mission statement too.
Was there a diploma from Moosiah University in Wasilla on his wall? He obviously has a degree in Word Salad.
He’s an authority freak and if given any kind of official recognition the State or County entity doing that that will bear responsibility for the inevitable tragedy this man will create. I doubt anyone is stupid enough to grant this clown official recognition.
How times change. I grew up in Texas, but when we were kids we wanted to play at being cowboys. Now it’s policeman and soldier.
It’s all about handling and safety, making sure that you’re not actually going to shoot anybody that’s in your unit or anybody that you’re not supposed to be shooting. Making sure that innocent bystanders aren’t hit. It’s the same type of military training that you would take if you were joining the Army,
Because civilians and innocents never get hit in wartime.
I’m one of I hope many veterans who see so much wrong with this idea.
“If you say you’re part of a militia, people start cowering with fear,”
he told TPM in a phone interview last week. “They start calling you a
white supremacist or part of the KKK [Ku Klux Klan] when it’s open for
every single resident that lives in the county.”
Old fat guys who wanna play warrior with live ammo. And if anybody doubts my comment just look at Sherlock’s posted image.
This fellow, the leader of the Golden Triangle militia, says he’s not a nut… I beg to differ. looks to me like what he wants is mostly to control people and kill those he disagrees with.
The ‘being patched in’ part is the key. They want the patch and button and hopefully a medal of valor for meritorious militiousness, whatever, to hang on their golf shirts so they can claim Patriotic superiority.
Their desires are unneeded and therefore not in place.
Because the pretend posse wants to play the Lone Ranger doesn’t mean that the public is going without their heroism, it means that they are pathetic.
They don’t get that everyone else gets it. Walker Texas Ranger was a silly TV show that starred a very similar clown like them.
They want to be the reserve to the reserve that answers to themselves only as they enter their Golden years and have missed the opportunity for making history.
These are simple dudes wanting to be legends. If they are a militia, so are the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. Oh, and the Brownies ; )
…
Can’t these militia types play their games with blanks?? Idiots follong with live ammo isn’t a good combination. This makes me think of a certain “reality” show that was briefly on the History Channel. It was called “Mountain Monsters” and featured out of shape older guys lumberi g around the woods with lots of guns and reacting to every small noise like they were under assault from Bigfoot. The point of this derp was these demented and heavily armed and slightly tipsy folks were out in the woods at night hoping to bag a bigfoot by rifle fire. Dumbest most irresponsible TV programming next to Fox News I’ve yet run across.
