They’re not scientists, they’re not Twitter experts, they’re not doctors nor lawyers…they’re not economists either…but that doesn’t stop them from acting like one
We have plenty of racists and bigots here on the east coast. They are just not the majority in most places, so they don’t get as much attention.
Police forces in the U.S. are like slow moving sloughs of civil and interracial injustice. The Indiana cops that twittered their insensitive and brutish sentiment comprise the fetid scum that floats on the surface, rotting and stinking and in full view of all.
I thought NJ had a lot of troopers until I drove across Indiana and back on I 80. Once.
Holy crap. Nothing but endless cornfields and radar traps. Ohio was almost as bad.
So the African-American cop’s attempt to suck up to the white power structure didn’t work out too well. Too bad. Maybe Ben Carson can give him a job. He certainly won’t get any promotiona now.
Yup, they are absolute psychos - I watched one of them take his cruiser across the grassy median dividing I-80, sideways, at about 70 mph, grass and dirt rooster-tails spewing in all directions, like out of some fucking movie…all so he could go after someone slightly exceeding the speed limit in front of me.
I think their hats are a little too tight.
Unbelievable!
But very obvious that ALL of us have something to fear about police. Are they just stupid? Are they … what … a “gang” that we have to protect ourselves from? What is it with the police today?
Sucking up to racists rots the soul. Whatever material results occur. I have seen it in Latinos. I have seen it in African Americans.
Sometimes I have seen it in reverse. Years ago I was in the airport in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. My flawless American accent established my “American identity” in the eyes of a Cuban American young woman, who then proceeded to unload a ton of anti-Dominican racism directed at the people she was leaving. Look, I am as cautious as the next guy. Then was not the time to argue, so I let the remarks ride (cops in Santo Domingo were rough in those days, regarding fisticuffs).
However I was also 100% convinced that this same woman would have said the same things about Mexicans if she were departing Mexico City.
People like this guy, Clarence Thomas, Herman Cain, Ben Carson, Michael Steele, Marco Rubio and even Ted Cruz (who should have changed his name if he wanted so much to be thought of as “white”) are, essentially, pandering to people who dislike (and are extremely uncomfortable around) non-whites.
Makes for a lot of internal dissonance.
It apparently takes some people a whole lot of effort to learn anything at all. Even at 140 characters they manage to behave like absolute idiots. After so many unarmed people being killed by police one would think that police would get the clue that joking about killing an unarmed and unresisting person isn’t something to frigging joke about. This isn’t a mistake. Far from it. This is willful stupidity. The cop that wrote that tweet knew exactly what he was saying.
So it was not the Indiana Police Dept, it was one asshole.
“We don’t have a doctorate in Twitter”
I’d recommend a grade school education in compassion and mercy first.
Plenty of them here in California too.
Who knew pigs could tweet?
I respectfully disagree. The more of them who identify themselves to the public, the better.
It’s not the veiled racism.
It’s not the overt stupidity.
It’s not the lack of social media skills.
It’s the cold, heartless, hateful mean-spiritedness that really makes this so repulsive.
What “today” offers is an avenue for the hidden prejudices of police to be exposed, through social media, through cell phone cameras, and so on. This has always been with us, I daresay, as bad as it seems now, it’s been far worse.
It’s everywhere. A supervisor (Plastics R&D), PhD from Taiwan once informed his supervisor that he would never work for a newly hired, more experienced, PhD from Korea because the Koreans are the N(blank)s of the Orient.
Too many people hate and fear “The Others”.
“Our intent was not what people are jumping on the bandwagon for,” Adams said. “Our issue has nothing to do with Eric Garner. As an African-American officer, why would I touch that issue?”
Because you are a dick.
And they arent even good cops…Where are all the good cops? Why hasnt one single “honest” cop took a stand? Cowards maybe?
Just unbelievable. Even for Indiana.
