If only! Yet in most states it’s illegal to hit your dog, but you can still hit your kid. Would that children had the same protections as dogs. Doucebag.

Having raised both world-class hunting dogs and brilliant children, I will say that I wish I had trained dogs first. It would have made raising children much easier.

The consistency, the constancy, the self-discipline and deliberateness required to train a bird dog is crucial to the process and applies to raising children even moreso.

Not in terms of the harsh discipline, but in terms of demanding adherence to truly necessary authority. Harsh discipline is usually a confession of impatience or incompetence on the part of the trainer and/or parent.

A smart dog will train a dumb owner. And smart kids will train themselves improperly if we don’t offer a better option.

But I think the whole world is maturing in some ways, and we, as a civilization, are beginning to realize that violence of any sort, especially when administered in the name of parenting, is at best counter-productive and at worst, wantonly destructive.

This is wrong even when it comes to dogs. Only people who want aggressive dogs hit their animals. Cesar’s approach notwithstanding, even the idea that you have to make a big point of showing your dog who is in control, be the alpha male etc. is wrong. Dogs actually want to please you and just need to be shown how.

All this sort of tough-sounding talk–about raising kids and children-- is just a lame rationalization of the desire to bully beings who are weaker than you are.

Cliff Notes:
All kids (especially the non-white-skinned ones) are dogs and should be treated as same. Constant fear and pain are the only way anyone will ever learn.

Ironically he’s right, although not the way he thinks - because there’s just as much research showing that pain and fear are highly problematic when dealing with dogs as well.

Spanking is an invaluable discipline method that must be used sparingly and never abused. There is however a huge difference between a couple of smacks on a child rear end and leaving bruises and bloodied scars.

The people who believe you don’t have to show their dog who the alpha dog is are the same ones who’s dogs kill their kids. Ignorance of the highest order with respect to dogs.

I’m not saying you should hit your dog. That doesn’t help and just riles them up. But you absolutely have to prove to them, especially some of the bigger breeds (like pit bulls, mastiffs, and German Shepards), that you have the capability to force your will upon them at any time. Otherwise, you might as well leave a loaded gun in your nightstand drawer for how dangerous of a situation you have created.

Dogs also grow up to be libtard if you don’t beat 'em–start expecting free food and trips to the vet and stuff like that.

I’m going to disagree with you on the categorical “Smart kinds will train themselves improperly.” If I’d have followed my “training”, I’d be a homophobic, racist, right-winger. About dogs…an asshole abuse owner will still be an asshole abusive owner regardless of how smart the dog is.
