Discussion: Zinke Seems To Carve Out Exception For Home State On Shrinking Monuments

You will notice that hunters and conservation minded progressives are bedfellows in this fight. Very interesting development.

ā€œWeā€™re happy he recognizes the importance of the Badger Two-Medicine,ā€ Tawney said, referring to the 203-square-mile (526-square-kilometer) area south of Glacier that Zinke recommends be a monument. ā€œPlaces that are very similar in fashion, like Bears Ears, heā€™s not quite protecting. ā€¦ You canā€™t talk out of both sides of your mouth.ā€

Clearly, Tawney is a not a friend of Don Jr. - If itā€™s impossible to talk out of both sides of your mouth, the Trumps wouldnā€™t talk at all.

Zinke has made no secret of his political desires. In his first term in the U.S. House, he raised his hand to become speaker but didnā€™t get chosen after Ohio Rep. John Boehner resigned. Last year, Zinke became an early supporter of Trump and publicly stated his desire to be picked as vice president.

Says a lot. He only served a single full term in the House. But indicated interest in the Speakership, was an early (opportunistic?) supporter of Trump who let it be known that he wanted to be picked as VP. Thatā€™s a special form of entitlement, eh? Barely in office, but assume that you are destined for much higher office.

Keep an eye on this guy. Seems to have snake scribbled all over him.

But I always thought that when it was your time, that you would be the one to hold the strings. Senator Corleone Zinke, Governor Corleone Zinke, something.

Just one more of the grifting criminals Trump and his toadies in the GOP majority in the Senate has placed into office. Only the best peopleā€¦

I guess NIMBY applies to drilling and mining as well.

Zinke: ā€œNot in my back 40.ā€

Chiselinā€™ Trump, himself, gets around that problem by talking out of his ass.

Hmmmmā€¦ using your office to enrich yourself at othersā€™ expense. Such an uncommon occurrence in the Trump era. / snark

At the expense of all other states just so he can remain popular enough back home to run for Senate at some point?

I hope they arenā€™t stupid enough to fall for that

Pendley compared Zinkeā€™s actions to those of President Bill Clinton in 1996, when he halted a gold mine near Yellowstone

Those of us who suffered through the Great Global Gold Shortage know how disastrous that decision was.

Rich people just canā€™t get the hang of what gives life meaning. They merely exist in a vacuum neither realistic nor optimistic. Never thought so much corruption and depravity could reside within one place and time. Move over the Gilded Age and meet the Trump Age.

I go to Montana every year for about 6 weeks; about an hour from Glacier National Park. Anyone fucked up enough to even THINK about exploiting that gorgeous gift from the universe can bend over the kiss my ass. Itā€™s just beyond human understanding how predictable and horrible the GOP is with regard to anything that preserves nature or beauty. These shameless opportunists would pimp their own mothers if there were a few bucks in it. The fact Zinke is treating Montana with more respect only means heā€™s a slime-bag politician whoā€™s bribing his home boys for votes. Underneath the fake concern troll is a ravening wolf who doesnā€™t give a ratā€™s red ass about our nationā€™s need for protected national parks. Maybe heā€™ll be eaten by a grizzly; probably give the bear diarrhea.

Zinke, a former Navy SEAL, said he knew when he took over the 70,000-employee department in March that, ā€œI got 30 percent of the crew thatā€™s not loyal to the flag.ā€

Hadnā€™t read that. Oh my.

I guess that tells you what the sentiment is in Montana. Wonder if itā€™s all that much different in the states were Zinke and der Furor want to make it easy to rape the landscape. (I can tell you that it isnā€™t in Massachusetts, where theyā€™re talking about substantially reducing the size of a marine monument.

So, this guyā€™s position is all about protecting his personal property and ā€œhisā€ state, the hell with the rest of us. Andā€¦ is he going to get away with this?

Zinke is a suck, pure and simple. He will go after 'liberals like a rabid dog and then then insist he doesnā€™t ā€˜agreeā€™ with them as he does exactly what they are advocating. THAT would be OK, I mean we donā€™t need CREDIT, but he will double down and screw a ā€˜blueā€™ state to show Trump he really IS on the team.

Thatā€™s some world-class Republican hypocrisy right there.
