Discussion: Zinke Being Probed For Use Of Private Jet To Attend Meeting With Hockey Team

ā€œafter no other commercial forms of travel were available.ā€

Huh? This was a meeting in Vegas, right? Vegas has flights to and from everywhere. At all hours of the day and night.

Trump hires nothing but professional grifters.

Chiselers and grifters, all. Disgusting, deplorable pigs lining up at the public troughs.

Beyond any other ethics concerns being associated with hockey in any fashion is reason enough for some sort of serious sanction.

It would be interesting if a big factor in what finally brings Trump down is a reaction to the general dilution of moral or behavioral standards in politics that made him possible in the first place. Zinke doesnā€™t have any sense that it might be problematic to use an expensive private charter on the government dime to give an inspirational speech to a campaign donorā€™s hockey team. Itā€™s a connect-the-dots with about three dots. We used to insist that you avoid the appearance of impropriety, and then we said look, just avoid the actual impropriety, OK? Cool thanks. Now we donā€™t even say that. We say, ā€œAhhh, they all do it Clinton Foundation whereā€™d Obama get those cool shades on a Presidentā€™s pay blah blah.ā€ And itā€™s gotten to the point where not being corrupt is fine if youā€™re the Eagle Scout type but really not typical. And now the pendulumā€™s swinging back, maybe?

Iā€™d say heā€™s skating on thin ice. Or perhaps, he scored on his own goal. Give him five for grifting and a game misconduct.

Interior Dept and hockey is played inside.

Makes sense.

Seems to be a lifelong problem with Zinke. From his wiki bio:

In the late 1990s, Zinke paid back the Navy $211 after improperly billing the government for personal travel expenses. Zinkeā€™s former commanding officer, now-retired Vice Admiral Albert M. Calland III, stated that as a result, Zinke received a June 1999 Fitness Report that blocked him from being promoted to a commanding officer position, or to the rank of captain.[16][17] Zinke acknowledged the error but maintains that the incident did not adversely affect his career.[16] His promotion from lieutenant commander to commander was approved the following year.[18]

Ah but there is more to the story, it wasnā€™t just about traveling to give a speech to his donorā€™s team, it is also about after the speech when he took that plane to deliver him to his home in MT.
(I believe this if factual, there are just so many Secretaries flying all over the damn place doing God knows what.)

If the frikkinā€™ Queen can take a regularly scheduled train, a cabinet secretary can frikkinā€™ fly commercial

See, thatā€™s the difference between ā€œold richā€ and ā€œnouveau richeā€ (and wannabes). The former have nothing to prove; the latter think the trappings make them important.

Case in point: compare Donnieā€™s tasteless, garish gilt nouveau-riche home with the photos taken in the private living quarters of Prince William and his wife Catherine in Kensington Palace (taken when the Obamas visited). It looks like a nice, cosy home (in spite of the priceless paintings hanging in the background).

ā€¦and Iā€™d be willing to wager that none of the furniture was purchased new. The attics and storerooms in Grannyā€™s houses were searched and things were sent out for reupholstering.

Somewhere an interior decorator still mourns their lack of a soul.
