I love the argument he had: Sports should be a pure performance-based meritocracy, and if it were that again, like it used to be, everybody on the team would be straight and white.

This Moody fellow must still be grumbling about Jesse Owens competing at the1936 Nazi Olympics.
That’s actually common in publishing, putting people on mastheads as a courtesy when they’re pretty peripheral at best to the day to day operations. What they said there was pretty firmly dismissive and I get the impression some higher-up who didn’t approve the piece was making his or her displeasure known. Fox does occasionally have these spasms of understanding that you don’t have to gratuitously insult people, young engaging Olympians, for instance, 24/7. There may even be people in the upper echelons who don’t want the network to follow its aging audience into the grave.

So is he saying that the US would totally clean up in figure skating or ice dancing if only more corn-fed hairy not-at-all-metro-or-hipster white men were allowed to compete? I wasn’t aware there was a backlog of such men just waiting for the chance to represent the Heartland.
Sounds like what Moody wants is a special plastic trophy just for being able to whine to his resentful white supremacist readership.
The point of the Olympics is for nations to meet and exchange ideas in a neutral environment. As Korean reunification gestures are being made to end a war that has not been resolved in 65 years or so, we get some clown telling us it’s all about who takes home the most medals. And those medals had damn well better be won by white manly men. Moody just wants to take us back to the good old days of say, the 1936 Olympics where Hitler snubbed Jesse Owens and how did that work out?
