Discussion for article #227014
TN is an insurance company state. WSM the Opry radio bastion, “We Service Millions”, no surprise (Frist dynasty), Vanderbilt medical etc.
One wonders how much pressure the auto industry is putting on these clowns as well to insure people of low means.
wow it was a horrible law till it wasn’t… do you smell republicon hypocracy it don’t smell like bacon more like dirty dipers and desperation
Wait a minute! Charley Cook is still droning on about how “Obamacare Remains a Huge Liability for Democrats” so this can’t possibly be true.
“Other pieces of the Tennessee plan could include co-payments and incentives for healthy behavior, based on the governor’s past public comments.”
Tennessee Tyranny!
Bill Haslam is showing signs of discovering his spine.
So far, as governor, Bill has toed the Tea Party line on 95% of issues.
And he’s caught hell for it, too.
When Bill was mayor of Knoxville, he did a decent job, and made some pretty good decisions.
As governor, with Lamar “It’s All About Me” Alexander and Bob “Shorty” Corker whispering in his ears, Bill has been a signal disappointment.
I’ve known him for years, and he’s a nice, kind man with a lovely and charming wife and really good kids.
But as a politician, he’s weak, easily led, and eager to please his GOP handlers—all of which negates his good personal qualities.
I’ll believe this is going to happen when it actually happens.
Southern Nanny State!
Is this guy Bill Maher’s brother or possibly evil conservative twin? The resemlance is uncanny.
First Wo. then Pa and now Tenn. this after their party voted 52 times to repeal the law, what will the FOX NOISE ditto heads do now
Every now and then a GOP governor wakes up and does something positive for the citizens of his/her state. Why does it take so damm long to to the correct thing with this crowd?
They’re dropping like flies. Should be interesting to watch the colors change from red to purple to blue in November.
Another domino falls. Of course, they are all sticking in provisions that poke a sharp stick into the poors and twist it a bit, just to let their base know they are still the massive dicks they elected.
I still find it disturbing that certain states are allowed a special kind of dispensation, by somehow being allowed to take tax dollars devoted for Medicaid expansion and use it for private company greed, which undoubtably has higher adjusted copays, fees, and out-of-pocket costs. It will enable more people in that state to get healthcare, which is all to the good, but at what cost to the overall ACA? What if all States did that? Where would Medicaid be? Not really being expanded for the poor, as I see it.
Just because it helps Tennessee taxpayers, hospitals, healthcare providers, and families that badly need access to healthcare is no reason for this COWARD to cave to the Socialist DICTATOR!!!
“If approved by federal officials and the state legislature, the plan would help Tennesseans caught in the coverage gap of the Affordable Care Act, which has left 162,000 Tennesseans without health insurance, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.”
This is how the issue was framed by the Tennessean today in their article.
It should be noted the NAACP and other advocacy groups were holding protests across the street from the Capitol and the Governor felt the pressure. The groups pointed out TN was losing 2.7 mil a day in ACA funds.
The State Legislature, not to be outdone, recently passed a bill giving it the sole discretion of accepting an expansion. One wonders why the governor signed such a law? If he only knew then what he knows today. If the CMS deals with AR, PA and IA are any indication, the sticks will not be accepted in any deal, only the carrots.
So, the some GOPers have finally come up with “free-market” alternatives? Using tax dollars to buy private insurance sounds a little familiar…
Is he up for re-election? That’s the only reason I can think of forvTN deciding to expand Medicaid. Wonder how many citizens of the Volunteer State died from lack of insurance.
The CMS is allowing the state in the case of PA to potentially charge a premium no more than 2% of a household income. And if the participants jump thru the state hoops that could be waived. No fees for any participant below the poverty line. CMS will not grant benefit waivers. When benefits of the state plan equals or exceed the federal level the state can use those state plans.
Work or behavioral incentives are prohibited. The states can fund and administer these programs but participation is voluntary. Even if people are removed from the program for not paying the premium they can reenroll without waiting periods. So the states are winning the public relation battle (smile) with the GOP base but still being forced to the trough for a drink of ObamaCare. I said I would have a fresh beer for every state that broke rank and I am having one today in anticipation.
I see that Pennsylvania GOOPer governor is going to use the money to directly subsidize his supporters in the insurance industry. How nice for them.
