Discussion: WY District Votes To Arm Teachers From Bears After DeVos Suggestion To Do So

“We have a right to conceal carry in this state. And I think people should exercise their rights,” said Rachel Rodriguez-Williams, a former California police officer with two children attending a private school in Cody. “Whether it’s Walmart or a school building, if you conceal carry you conceal carry — you have a permit to do so.”

Hey Rachel. You also have a right to poke grizzly bears. Don’t you think you should exercise that right?

We have a right to conceal carry in this state.

We should also have the right to poke a sharp stick in our eyes.

Blame Ronald Reagan and the NRA who made “concealed carry” illegal in CA in 1968.

Will the teachers be required to carry something powerful enough to stop a grizzly? A handgun won’t do. Need something more powerful than an AR-15 or an AK-47. A 30-06 would be pretty marginal. Probably ought to make them tote something like a Weatherby .375 magnum, although a 12-gauge loaded with rifled slugs might do in the confines of a classroom: They’ll stop anything at 10-12 feet.

Commercially induced mass hysteria. The people in large swathes of this country have lost their collective minds. Are the bears sliding on sliding boards and eating beets in the caf and walking up and down the halls without a pass? No? Then calm the fuck down.

Has there ever been a report of a grizzly attacking a school in WY? Just wonderin’.

“Unfortunately we have people in our country who want to cause harm to students and at some point you have to respond to that threat. And that’s what this board decided to do with the policy they adopted,” said Superintendent Ray Schulte.

Unless the policy they adopted was to forward a petition from the school board to DC demanding DeVos' firing I don't see as they've helped their students.

This is exactly why it’s ABOUT to happen. Gun-logic is a wonderful thing.

Hell, just give them Stinger missiles. Never know when ISIS might try to an aerial bombing. Gotta cover all eventualities, just ask DeVos.

Newest excuse for shooting a person of color in Wyoming: “I thought it was a grizzly bear.”

“A tall fence surrounds the Wapiti school grounds to keep bears out.”

Okay, so I’m envisioning a nice eight or ten footer, maybe some razor wire on top? Bullpuckey! A look at street view, granted from 2007,so maybe they’ve increased it, shows a measly four foot high fence. Any self-respecting grizzly would be over that in second if there were a couple of tasty tots handy inside.

I wanna see the training that ensures they won’t lose their shit when a pissed off grizzly is roaring at them.

The right of the people to keep and arm bears shall not be infringed.

“Unfortunately we have people in our country who want to cause harm to students and at some point you have to respond to that threat. And that’s what this board decided to do with the policy they adopted,” said Superintendent Ray Schultz.

Get a grip, Sgt. Schultz. There are more people in your own county with access to dynamite than there are people in the US who would even consider traveling to Cody, WY, to go attack children at school. Where are the blast-resistant doors and window shutters?

If you want your children to survive and thrive, teach them how to gather data and analyze threats and opportunities.

Somebody has to say it. Do we really want teachers carrying guns when are sweet little darlings hit one with a spitball.

That is at some point, considering how some politicians, especially Republican governors like Scott Walker demonize, demean and otherwise cut teachers salaries, increase class sizes, reduce budgets to pay for classroom materials such as textbooks, that there is a danger to our students that armed teachers will be that danger.

This is what a real threat looks like:
