Discussion: WSJ: Several Potential Nominees To Eventually Replace Sessions At DOJ

Unless he makes Rosenstein the AG, he’s not going to be able to replace Sessions that easily. I can’t see Sessions leaving the job willingly and I do think he would rat out Trump in a second if he lost this dream job. All these Sessions pieces which pop up every 2 weeks or so are just the usual palace intrigue.

Lindsey Graham is not on the list. All his tantrums were for nothing. Will Lindsey be mad or sad?

Trump will have to fire Sessions. It’s better to keep potential enemies on the inside than cast them out.

He’ll be whatever the Donald tells him to be.

When LBJ was urged to fire J. Edgar Hoover, the president said he would “rather have him inside the tent pissing out than outside pissing in.” Hoover stayed.

Mitch wouldn’t let him. Loss of Senate seat.

I will place my wager on Janice Rogers Brown. She is without a doubt the own the libs candidate so that has to make her the front runner.

Lose a Senate seat…from South Carolina? Theoretically possible, but not too likely.

Lindsey will be best.

As unlikely as Alabama, in fact.

Jeff Sessions: “See what a bang-up job I’m doing? It’ll take several people to replace me.”

Touche. It is indeed extremely difficult to predict when Republicans will put a candidate with an unhealthy interest in teenage girls on their ticket.

An idiot and an idealogue. But African American.

Alrighty then, who is on yearbook detail? Who’s got financials, don’t forget their credit score. Someone figure out which sports ball teams they cheer for.

Sorry Mitch called it out. He will not let any more Senators move to the Trump admin.

Agreed.

I’m really not sure about this. I doubt Sessions can withstand the withering criticism he’d get if he betrayed Trump.

Sure, he can put on a brave face when he’s actively waging his race war, with some prestige and power to salve his ego. But if Trump does fire him, those perks vanish, and what does he really think he could accomplish by attacking Trump? At least under Trump, the gains made in the race war will be solidified.

And what about Sessions’ own self-interest, post-Trump admin? I doubt he’d seek office, I suspect he has no credibility outside the GOP, meaning his only real option to maintain his standard of living is wingnut welfare. The wingnut ecosystem is funded almost entirely by people who support Trump because they benefit from the way he corrupts government. They won’t bestow any chairmanships or board seats or other paid honors on someone who tries to upset that apple cart.

When Trump fires him, Sessions will go out like a lamb. “Elegantly,” if you will.

Impossible prior to 2020, since the SC guv McMaster would likely be executed if he appointed a Democrat

Ms Lindsey wants to be U N Ambassador.

This is very funny, Sessions who is and always has been a racist to his core, was first to endorse Rump. He literally begged for the AG appointment, he got it! Then he followed the law and recused himself. Now the “what goes around comes around” has struck him. He so richly deserves the boot that is coming. Please note how quickly the republican Senate has deserted him.
