A piece from Foreign Policy about an Ebola outbreak in the Congo and the decision of the Trumpsters to discontinue the NSC post dealing with national health security. Fortunately for much of the rest of the world, not the unfortunate Congolese who are infected, the Ebola outbreak is in a rather remote location. Laurie Garrett writes a good summary of the situation and can see no reason to do this other than Obama established this office. I put in her opening paragraph in italics below.
As U.S. President Donald Trump announced his decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal, the White House discreetly released an official proposal to cut funding for children’s health programs, Medicare, and Ebola responses. The two policies may seem unrelated, but they share the same basic design — assuming vast national security risks simply for the sake of dismantling former President Barack Obama’s legacy.
