Discussion: Woman Found Dead In Jail Cell After Moving For New Job In Texas

Discussion for article #238473

She was pulled over for not signalling a lane change in a quiet area.

ETA: Not all verifiable sources but it does have a link to the video of her arrest. http://heavy.com/news/2015/07/sandra-bland-dead-death-killed-waller-county-texas-illinois-woman-dies-jail-police-custody-job-hanging-traffic-stop-assault-police-officer-video-photos-cause-of-death-autopsy-facebook/

Something stinks with this. Sounds suspect.

I have zero faith in our criminal justice system. Zero.

Looking for work while black.

She should have known better. Probably drove while doing it, doubling down on asking for trouble.

Sounds like murder to me, but whenever cops investigate other cops, no cops are held accountable for their crimes.

Some video from a Chicago station:

The victim can be heard asking why they are being so rough and complaining that her head was slammed so hard that she could no longer hear.

I found it disturbing that a bystander who also filmed the event was told to leave even though he was not filming close to where the troopers were beating the woman.

She was to start her new job working at her alma mater today.

From what I have seen it seems unlikely this young woman killed herself.

I started watching this last night trend and I have to agree with the people that think there will soon be a push to find out everything she ever said or done to prove that she “wasn’t an angel”. I’m sure the crack journalists at FOX will be on it, no matter how dubious the source.

For me, it depends on the region, but the bar is pretty low. The fact this is an African-American victim in Texas, leads me to pretty much agree with you here.

If you’re black and driving in a predominately white neighborhood, especially in the South, you have a death wish.

What in the hell do we have to do to stop this sort of …I don’t even know what to call it…my words are either too disgusting to type or too mild to make my point.

I have no doubt that the elite Countertop Inspection Commando battalion of the 101st Chairborne “Fightin’ Keyboarders” Division is on the case. I’ll bet they’ll find soft drink cans in her car and evidence that she purchased candy at some point on her trip.

It’s official. I was holding out some hope, but I am supremely creeped out by Texas. It may as well be Wayward Pines, as far as I’m concerned. I wanted to go to SXSW festival next year, but the hell with that. I’m afraid I’ll get shot by some Jade Helm, open carry, global warming denying, anti-abortion, liberal yank hating nut job. I mean, I’ve heard enough. Texas is off the vacation list until further notice. This woman was murdered. I have very little doubt of that.

“Texas: it’s like a whole other goddam planet.”

Maybe “planet”?

Good one though.

Unless.. all her hopes were riding on that new job, and in her mind this arrest/assault/incarceration destroyed that hope for her. Our policing system has so much to answer for.

Oh shit! Here’s another one…

<a href=Attorneys: Mississippi Cop Kevin Herrington Said 'I'm Gonna Get That N****r' Before Fatal Chokehold | HuffPost Voices">Huffpost

Choked for 30 minutes. It was a terrestrial lynching,

The attorneys say that Herrington had a female companion with him in the police car, who was not an officer. As Herrington applied a chokehold, attorneys say, the officer instructed the female companion to remove his gun from its holster so that Sanders could not reach it; however, the woman could not unholster the weapon, but one of the witnesses was able to tell her how to remove it.

Witnesses told the attorneys that Sanders said at least twice that he could not breathe, attorneys say. Another witness went home and got a mask that would enable them to perform CPR just in case it was needed. Attorneys say Sanders never fought the officer and did not move throughout the incident. Herrington did not let the witness perform CPR and maintained the headlock until backup and emergency-medical technicians arrived as much as 30 minutes later, the attorneys for the Sanders family say.Jackson Free Press

Having black friends can wreck havoc on the floral line in your budget. Especially galling when they don’t even get to see the damned arrangements.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death in a Texas county jail cell of a 28-year-old woman with ties to the Chicago area.

The Texas Rangers? I guess they had nothing better to do during the All Star break.

Fixed. I have reached the fucking point with Safari Autocorrect that I really wish it was a human being so I could do this to it:
