Discussion for article #238742
Shouldn’t that be “suspicion of RISK of DANGER of arson”? Actually, since the usual definition of arson is “willful or malicious burning of a dwelling” it has no application here at all.
Good Lord. What this article doesn’t say is if anything else caught fire besides the flag. I see no evidence of that from what I read. The only thing this article says is that the arrest comes because someone thinks that was her intent. I seriously doubt that, and since nothing else was destroyed beside the flag, no one and nothing else was harmed in the process. So where’s the damage, other than to some jackasses bullshit Souther pride?
Just curious…I wonder if they allow grills with lighter fluid as a starter under that roof?
With that said, she probably should have dug a pit outside the structure since the roof seems kind of low. And a bucket of water would be advisable. Just ask Smokey the Bear.

According to the article, no - only gas grills. I think these folks simply messed up by where they burned the flag. Sounds to me like had they simply done this outside somewhere (and not the pavilion), everything would have been fine.
Thanks. I must’ve missed that.
Strange that policeman was there at just the right moment to witness this “crime”. I wonder what his heritage and political views might be.
Yes, it sounds like it should be just a misdemeanor charge of improper grilling.
Maybe it’s wisdom gleaned from a mildly misspent youth, but I have a sense of what will get attention from the police and it’s just bad policy to go to a park and start lighting stuff on fire in ways the rules don’t provide for. Until further facts emerge I see more bad hipster judgment than official repression here.
I think this would fall under Free Speech protection.

But then the pavilion claims crowded-theater protection and you’re right back where you started. : )
The real crime would be to use that grill again to cook some steaks, after burning a plastic flag in it.
F’in racist cops everywhere.
"The situation posed a risk of danger to the property and citizens of Manitou Springs, as there were multiple people in the area."
Not as big a risk to the citizens as that goddamned symbol of traitorous insurrection and inhumanity.
So I imagine they’ve arrested a lot of people who used charcoal under that pavilion, huh.
Are you allowed to yell “Fire!” if there really is a fire?
I’m talking like a fireman’s kid now, but if that structure is made out of wood, she deserves to be cited.
But then, I’m just full of fire-safety tips, lore and ingrained behaviors.
