Discussion: Witnesses Testify Manafort Spent Thousands On Luxury Clothing

$900,000 for suits? Trump could have paid for six sexual encounters with that.

So at $20K a suit that’s 9 suits a year? Was this just Imelda Syndrome, or did the suits go back out in some way and get turned into clean cash? (Or did they get delivered to perfectly legitimate ukrainian businessmen and their friends?)

I’m still trying to figure out the ostrich coat. Isn’t that something out of a Shaft movie? Did he have shoes with live goldfish in the heels?

Ultimately it doesn’t matter what he bought with the money. What matters is where the money came from, and whether he declared it as income and paid taxes on it. And whether he defrauded the banks when he borrowed from them.

Hopefully, the feds have that info wrapped up in a neat bow.

It’s something a jailbird wears.

The suits are cheaper in the long run.

Just think of all his fellow prisoners who would like to pluck those feathers. Ouch.

I hear Mueller isn’t even attending the trial. LOL

Bobby Fisher, the Greatest Chess Grandmaster of them all, used to call this “Sealing a Crusher”

After a move, he would write down his next move, put it in an envelope, seal it, then get up & leave the building. He was that sure there was no way out for his opponent; he would have to concede the match.

I get the sinking feeling that Manafort will be as far as it goes for trumpistas doing jail time. The rest will get pardons and daddy trump will skate with a slightly sullied reputation and nothing else will happen. No indictment, no resignation. And he probably will win reelection. (Hangs head, kicks pebbles, walks away in disgust).
Edit
That trump lied, obstructed, laundered money, conspired with a hostile power to throw an election, committed treason won’t matter much to anyone…but me. And let us not forget jailing babies and hauling 3yr olds into court without a lawyer expecting the child to defend itself .

Correct.

The Feds are proving that his SPENDING far exceeded what he reported to the IRS in INCOME.

WHAT he spent it on is not important (and the Judge has reiterated this idea) it is the fact that he SPENT THE MONEY he supposedly did not have according to his IRS filings.

Also, paying for things with wire-transfers is a good way to attempt to shield the expenses from IRS Audits.

Is it wrong (or weird) for me to want to hear Manafort do a Ric Flair promo?

I can put a cheap, beat-up, second-hand tricycle in the most expensive garage ever designed, but that won’t change said tricycle into a Jaguar. I can only wonder what deep psychological scar Mr. Manafort is trying to mask with these luxurious trinkets, purchased with ill-gotten gains.

I don’t know about scars; I do know, however, about abject profound greed.

In Mueller I trust!

This is a clever ploy by Meuller’s team. The witness is there to testify that Manifort used secret offshore bank accounts to buy really expensive stuff. The expensive stuff he bought can then be entered as evidence in spite of judge cranky’s objections. Well played prosecutors, very well played!

Yes. I see this judge believes it’s not a crime to be rich or profligate. OK. Fair enough.

But I assume the Mueller team can itemize what Manafort spent on luxury cars, clothes, jewelry, property in New York, Alexandria, the Hamptons etc., landscaping, remodeling and so on. Then the can argue there is no way Manafort could have afforded those things given the income he reported to the IRS.

Clothes horse here. I question Manafort’s taste but he certainly knows high-end, handmade clothing and accessories. I’ll be there when the US Marshalls auction off all his stuff.
