This is a pretty odd statement coming from the guy who Claude Taylor and the Palmer Report and Louise Mensch were asserting was quitting any day now because he was busy rolling over on his fellow Republicans in order to escape indictment. Or something.
Yeah, because unlike some Presidents, he actually pays his fair share of taxes. Hell, unlike some Presidents, he actually pays taxes in the first damn place.
I shudder to think what sort of world will be left when the current occupant is finally out of our White House. But I guarantee itâll be a world where nobody named Trump sets foot on a stage for under $1 million.
From 2015, unless something has changed since thenâŚ
CRS, June 13: Members of Congress are eligible for a pension at the age of 62 if they have completed at least five years of service. Members are eligible for a pension at age 50 if they have completed 20 years of service, or at any age after completing 25 years of service. The amount of the pension depends on years of service and the average of the highest three years of salary. By law, the starting amount of a Memberâs retirement annuity may not exceed 80% of his or her final salary.
That means that members of the House of Representatives â who are up for reelection every two years â would not be able to collect pensions of any amount if they only served one term. U.S. senators, on the other hand, serve six-year terms and would be able to collect pensions after one full term. But the pensions wouldnât be equal to their full salaries.
I donât know how it goes for Congressional staffers though.
I meant for Wall Street, where that kind of bankroll is lying around with no better use.
I canât help thinking of that funny scene in âThe Graduate.â We went to a Fathom Events screening of this great film last week, and I cracked up again, like I always do, when the drunk guy takes Dustin Hoffman aside at the party and says âIâve got just one word for youâŚ. Are you listening?â And Dustin Hoffman says, âYes sir.â And the guy says, âJust one wordâŚâ Then he says, âOptics.â
Oh, man, did we laugh. Itâs funny because itâs true!
Does the same hold if it were Chaffetz after he is no longer a Congressman were to be paid $400,000 to give a speech? Should his pension be âcurbed?â
These punitive little FKsâŚwe canât allow that black man to make money AND get a pensionâŚweâre gonna have to STOP that noiseâŚanyway, most of our GOP ex-Presidents are too old to take advantage now and have already built their fortune!
Oh, fuck you Chaffetz - you only care because the black guy got paid.
One thing I am not worried about is Obamaâs ability to earn a living. However he put up with complete assholes like you and the Turtle for 8 f&*king years and he deserves every penny of his pension. I cannot imagine how it must feel to have this much hatred stored up for another person but you are giving me the chance to do so. Go away you cretin
Chaffetz has announced that he is leaving congress soon, and is out for extended foot treatments while the Russia investigation gets closer and closer to the Presidentâs men. He is essentially a dead congressman walking.
I think the greatest fringe benefit of a job in Congress, is networking oneâs way into someplace like the hunting lodge where Antonin Scalia died, after a night of smoking, drinking, and telegraphing which precedents he wants to overturn next, with people who do business by handshake and personal favor.
Itâs a ticket to the world where investment opportunities nobody has ever heard of, just fall into your lap.
This is the guy who leak FBI information to influence the election in favor for the republicans. You cover-up, block, and lied during federal investigation. Then you ran like a coward. now you want to tweet: https://twitter.com/montrezmusic/status/859933566326755328?ref_src=twsrc^tfw&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ftheobamadiary.com%2F2017%2F05%2F03%2Fthe-time-is-now-to-make-your-voices-heard%2F
He should be fired. And MSM need to get a clue.
Thanks theobamadiary.com
Itâs even ok if the white guy in the WH has so many conflicts of interest, we canât keep them straight.
I am not worried about Obama, but some future President might be more like Harry Truman. He depended on the pension he received after the passage of the act providing pensions to past Presidents. The last thing America needs is some former President like Grant pounding out a memoir on his deathbed to make sure his wife is provided for in her old age. Chaffetzâs full on racism is full of shit.
I am not worried about deferred bribes so much as out and out bribes that I fear our current President might be soliciting. Where are Trumpâs tax returns.
What cap do you recommend for congressional pensions? A cap for congresspeople should be in the same bill. And people who serve one term or less shouldnât get a pension from us at all. Military personnel have to serve 20 years to get a pension.
And now only millionaires and retirees get to be members of Congress.
Thanks. I wrote my opinion about congressĂonal caps before reading this.
- Wait a minute. If money equals speech and there can be no restrictions upon spending money for political expression why isnât getting paid for political speech protected? Wouldnât this be a constriction upon the first amendment and freedom of speech using that logic? 2. Why not include any lobbying payments upon former Congressional members who use their elected experience and connections to influence Congress? 3. Why isnât it illegal to change the rules of the contract unilaterally after initial acceptance by both parties? Just asking
