Desperate times call for desperate measures.

“What I know is I’ve never sexually assaulted anyone,”

ummm would the translation then be “she was asking for it so it wasn’t assault.”

ugh.

And why wouldn’t they be aggressive?

According to latest Gallup Poll:

Republican Party Favorability Highest in Seven Years.

This is what happens when “we go high when they go low.”

Opportunistic impulse rapist. Maybe we should be focusing less on the impulse and more on the opportunistic. Brett Kavanaugh has been a consistent opportunist from the git-go. He was the only interviewee of Trump to offer a get-out-of-jail-free card, and it paid off. Indeed, opportunism isn’t even bad in the eyes of most people, but certainly we expect it to be tempered by some ethical standards. He spent years doing political operative work, and fibbed to Congress to get his current job. Apparently, this is an opportunity he’s willing to go to the mat for, despite the disrepute it brings to rule of law and trust in our system.

Precisely. Somebody needs to ask him what his definition of sexual assault is. Also whether he thinks his victims would agree that he’s never committed it.

I am in touch w/ my friend who A. was assaulted by PJS (one of the people at the party where Ford was assaulted) and B. dated one of the Prep boys shortly thereafter for about a year.

She knows details about the Renate story.
They had another nickname for her that is horrible. Rebate. That’s how they referred to her.

Rich, insular, private school entitlement and worse…is this the best America can do?

11 angry, arrogant, slut-shaming, “men” against one honest, brave woman.

What could possibly go wrong?

The interview of the Kavanaugh(t)s on Fox last night proves to me that this hearing will never take place. If McConnell can’t get the votes NOW, he ain’t gonna gain any after the hearings.

Kavsy gets pulled by 5pm Wednesday.

All that’s left now is how Trump tries to spin this as a “win”

How’s the weather in your reality?

No global warming, I bet.

Collins and Murkowski will express their concerns, and then be good nazis in the end.

FFS, AP, posturing and chest-thumping to cover up a strategic retreat from the disastrous nomination of a historically weak and alienating nominee is not “newfound aggressiveness” any more than the guy at the mall with the beard is really Santa. You’re allowed to question this stuff, or make a quick call to get a quote from someone else who’d question it for you.

It would be nice if the universe could briefly switch into cartoon physics after the very first question on Thursday; just long enough for Kavanaugh’s face to slide off the front of his skull and blink up at it a few times before normal physics resumes and he tries desperately to put it back on but can’t get it to stick and it just kind of smears and falls apart in his hands

Newfound aggressiveness?
These are the people who refused to even meet with Merrick Garland. They withheld vast majority of documents. They had Kvanaugh’s attorney friend prescreen those that were turned over. They arbitrarily labeled tens of thousands senate confidential.
“Newfound aggressiveness”
How about “desperation propels Republican win-at-any-cost efforts to jam thru wounded nominee.”

This is what you get for voting Republican: a bunch of strongly faithful boats, whose wakes are totally not their fault at all.

I’m waiting for someone to offer the “Why don’t they blame the drunk slut for her behavior? This was a fine man who unfortunately ran into a string [ed. of more than 100] Jezebels who led him astray”

Republicans don’t give a shit about norms, they just care about winning/power. As posted yesterday, new rules need to be applied and adhered to by Dems.

Project REDMAP? Took years for Dems to figure out what was going on.
Plan to stack the courts? Been going on for decades.
Bush v. Gore perfectly exemplifies the difference in parties as Dems wanted to get the vote count correct; R’s wanted to win the presidency at any and all costs.

This pattern must repeat itself through history, where the power people run roughshod over those trying to build a more liberal society. The power mad people seize control and hang on for periods of time only to watch it crumble. My fear is they’re getting better at it - see Russia and China as examples. The power folks have near perfectly weaponized propaganda and are playing on the authoritarian base’s psychological impulses to a degree never seen before, perfecting the ability to manipulate through imagery and messaging.

We live in scary fucking times. Quoting Mueller:

Indeed, these so-called “iron triangles” of organized criminals, corrupt government officials, and business leaders pose a significant national security threat.

Their aggressiveness is not “newfound,” that is for sure.
