WTF, Flake is a moderate now? Talk about grade inflation.
“All I can do is cast the vote I think is correct."
The words of a saint.
I’m telling you… He’s trying to be the sensible guy who looks good in a suit - all it takes to be a successful Republican candidate for President. Oh, and he”ll be attractive toward those middlin’ “moderates.”
Her seat was ripe for the pickings in 2012 and look what happened. Only way she loses in 2020 is an anti-Trump wave.
Well, most to lose if you don’t count women who need reproductive health treatment and LGBTQ folks who want to get married.
Actually, I think Collins has much less to lose than basically all POCs, other women, all LGBTQ people, poor people, and pretty much anyone else who is not a wealthy white male.
But I take your point
She’s adopted this pose more than once. You can’t be the reluctant deb more than once. It basically consigns people to obscurity–look at Adlai Stevenson. She’s probably finished regardless of what she does.
“Correct as a political calculation for my future. The future of the country has never entered into the equation.”
If Collins would vote no on kavanaugh, she would be dead to the repubs. That means losing assignments and money. She won’t do it.
I wish she’d know that. Then maybe she would do the right thing. I’m not holding my breath.
Yeah, but it depends on which eye she has on 2020.
Compared to trump and the rest of the crazy repubs, he is.
Well, we still have a couple of years to flesh out where his big inheritance came from.
Collins is 65. She could vote no on Kavanagh and retire by choice, or by vote, and be just fine. But it could help her win, also.
As for the news cycle, I think the Repubs will forget must more readily than the Dems, especially once Kavenagh on SCOTUS starts the process of reducing people’s rights, access to healthcare, etc .
Not anymore
Trump fixed that.
Permanently
“All I can do is cast the vote I think is correct. If I try to do a political assessment on this vote, it would be wrong given that we’re talking about a Supreme Court nominee,” Collins told Politico.
You’ll be 0 for 2 if you vote for Kavanaugh, Senator.
Collins should remember that Murkowski lost the GOP primary to a Tea Party candidate … and won reelection as a write-in candidate. She should also remember that the other Maine senator is an independent.
So, she probably has a better chance in 2020 if she votes no.
Collins Has The Most To Lose From Kavanaugh Vote
Hardly.
If she votes yes there is a huge amount of money that will go to defeat her in 2020, but who knows, maybe she plans to retire then. None too soon for Flake and Assoc.
Crowdfunding to oppose Susan Collins if she votes for Kav as of Sept 14 up to 1.3 Million.
