Discussion: With Final Victory, Democrats Complete Stunning House Seat Pickup In CA

Many of the races are turning out to be not that close. Hill and Rouda are up over 6 points (more than 13k votes each). Levin is up 11. Porter is up 3 (9k votes). Harder is up 3. Cisneros is up by 2.

Hill and Rouda were actually behind in some public polls before e-day. If somehow TJ Cox could pull off the upset (down 2k currently) in CA-21, that would be a great finale to this House election.

Dotard certainly helped, but the primary credit must go to the state GOP itself. In a state that’s undergoing major demographic changes, and despite many warnings from inside as well as out, the party steadfastly refused to adjust, but instead doubled down on rejecting the “big tent” approach in favor of appealing to a shrinking base of angry white men.

So thanks a lot, fellas. Couldn’t have done it without ya.

Trump: This victory is clearly illegal. Russians were not allowed to vote in this election while entire Mexico voted in CA.

Here in California all state offices are held by Democrats, Democrats have a two thirds majority in our State Senate and better than two thirds in our Assembly and 45 of our 53 U.S. Representatives as well as both of our Senators are Democrats. Now, if we could only stop catching fire every week… I guess no state is perfect.

All Republicans must we swept from office. Why are ther 8 Republican Congressmen from California.? That’s 8 too many.

Most commentary I see about political changes in orange county stresses influx of Asians (and Hispanics) not the change of voting patterns in this group.

Great for California. This may be a bit off topic, but does anyone know the best way board a plane with a garden rake? I am flying out this week and was going to do a little forest floor maintenance.

I think they make fold-up rakes. Better yet bring a goat. Or a caribou (I hear the Finns use caribou).

Today California. Tomorrow let’s hope it expands back to Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and on to Arizona, Virginia, and on and on.

The Trump GOP needs to die.

Be best to quit slobbering over California and look around the country: Trump won what counts most, the Senate races, which are a preview of 2020 as things stand now (big qualifier), given U.S.’s allegiance to the undemocratic Electoral College system (the empirical reason why Hillary lost). The Republican victory also means the possibility of even more right wingers on the Supreme Court. In the American system of democracy, it’s the Senate that holds legislative power and final authority. The “Founding Fathers” designed it that way to limit the will of the “rabble,” as represented in the House.

The one House race I hoped we would win was Nunes seat.

This. It’s my understanding that as we speak, folks in CA-21 are still madly trying to wrangle votes and have almost until the end of the month in certain counties to try and get it done. The Blue Wave may not be over yet!

Hmm…does this mean that Avenida Del Presidente will hereafter be known as Avenida Del Cabron?

Nate Silver considers CA 21(TJ Cox vs Valadao) still in play.

In Orange County “John Birch” may finally be permanently dead, buried and the sole sent to place it deserves. But, I will tell you after living in the OC for my entire and life working with many Republican Political Operatives. These guys do not give in easy. They hate everything about California, because it is successful economically under full Democratic control. California is a complete repudiation of Republican economic philosophy.

Trump won Senate races in Indiana, Missouri and North Dakota, states Obama never won (OK he won Indiana in 2008). The Rs won narrowly in Florida, probably because of a terribly designed ballot and the responsible party is gone now. The Dems won Arizona, which is a state they haven’t won since 1996 (and that only because of a 3rd party candidate). They won Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Ohio was a split decision. Georgia will be in play and even Texas could be,. If the election were held today, any decent Dem would win comfortably in the EC. That doesn’t guarantee 2020 by any means, but it’s a damn good start,

Well said. This is exactly what the national Republican party is doing. They have painted themselves into a corner overlooking the abyss. Let’s give them a shove in 2020 and put them out of their misery.
