The GOP operatives cooking this stuff up don’t care if the outrage or offense is completely bogus. The point is to dominate a news cycle or two with something manufactured and sort of negative, and prevent the Democrats from getting their message through the all the static.
Seems to be working. And it will keep on working as long as the media continues to indulge this garbage. And as long as the public absorbs it without pushing back.
If you want a genuinely awful example, witness the situation in Colorado earlier today, where surrogates for the GOP’s senate candidate sprung a completely bogus claim that Senator Udall is a 9/11 truther … complete with edited audio from a public meeting. They KNOW it is garbage!

I’m reminded of the fake outrage from Guiliani and his acolytes back in 2000 when Billy Joel’s Captain Jack was played at Hillary Clintons senate kickoff.
But they have no problem with the Duck Dynasty guy being invited to the State of the Union speech.
