Discussion: Will The FBI's Findings On The Kavanaugh Allegations Be Made Public?

The findings will be made public through leaks. GOP doesn’t have a good story to tell. There isn’t any evidence exonerating Kavanaugh. The Ramirez allegations and additional witnesses will be in the record.

I’d also note that there is a shift today by Republicans to actually use a FBI report as a jumping off point to part ways with Kavanaugh. If Kavanaugh has any political sense at all, he’ll jump ship.

Could you please explain what you mean here? Do you mean the forthcoming FBI report?

Of course it shouldn’t be made public. How could Senate Republicans ever justify destroying this poor, honest, wonderful man’s life by allowing the public to know what a total douchebag he really is? Brett Kavanaugh must be protected from the truth.

“…it will be available to every senator and not just the members of his committee.”

In that case, it’ll be leaked five minutes before it even exists.

I had a transmission like that. And a golden retriever puppy.

What’s the GOP plan B if Kavanaugh doesn’t get confirmed? Lame duck fast track confirmation of someone else?

The real question is how do Collins and Murkowski vote? Are they looking for an excuse for a “yes” or an excuse for a “no?” Let’s say the FBI findings are inconclusive. I feel like Murkowski (and Manchin) are a lean no. That leaves Collins as the deciding vote. What is the burden of persuasion on Collins? Does she need to be persuaded to a “yes” or a “no?”

Someone posted last night that the Senate has less than 30 working days left in the year total which is most likely not enough time to ram a different nominee forward even with the most aggressive re-working of the rules once again by McConnell. It’s the Kav or nobody at this point.

Yes. I mean that even if Mitch keeps the report under wraps, its contents will leak like a sieve from the FBI, Dems, GOP and WH.

The FBI has a week to complete its investigation. Since the order was issued late Friday, normal use of the English language tells us that “1 week” means they have until EOD Friday to complete the investigation.

It’s not obvious to me that it’s reasonable to expect the report to be finalized instantaneously. I would expect them to need a working day to finish synthesizing everything.

It is very obviously unreasonable to expect every senator to be prepared to cast an informed vote on Kavanaugh within a few hours of the report being issued.

Anyone who is determined to move quickly but also exercise due diligence has got to realize that no vote can be called until Sunday AM at the earliest, assuming the investigation takes the full amount of time allotted.

But my money says that McConnell, fundamentally a tyrant who maintains power through dishonesty, will try to call a floor vote less than 2 hours after the FBI announces the investigation is complete (to say nothing of when the report is issued).

The same GOP that wanted James Comey’s & other DOJ e-mails. That are part of a on going investigation.

I would think that since it’s our taxpayer dollars funding this, it would be open to all. But, as Ugate said “what right do I have to think.” It does seem, however, that Trump’s earlier remarks indicate he might be considering removing Bart’s place setting from the table.

And it’s contents will be taken out of context by the GOPers to put the most positive spin on their disinformation efforts.

If Dems take the senate, Lame Duck Mitch will squeeze through a quickie nominee like poop through a goose.

Some nominee; any nominee…

What the FBI does this week will be (a) released, or (b) leaked. And Senators will attack the failures to follow up leads, and it will put Flake, Murkowski, and Collins on the spot.

Either way, when the D’s take over one (and hopefully both) houses of Congress this fall, they will re-open the entire thing and look at Kavaanaugh’s perjury and false statements.

This is a battle that will keep on, unlike with Thomas.

Why not open up a new investigation of Thomas? The GOP would do it in a heartbeat. Also, their extreme desperation is showing … every day, taking to the floor and being “outraged” isn’t helping, imo. It just reminds people - women - of Kavanaugh’s ludicrous performance.

I don’t know about that. But, I’m certain that the FBI’s Kavanaugh findings will be male pubic.
