Discussion: Will Questions About Hillary's Age Complicate GOP'S Reagan Worship? Chuck Todd Thinks So

Which is why a guy who was upstaged by a chimp in movies was there perfect candidate. Still is.

Ron also had Nancy at his side to occasionally whisper the answer to the reporterā€™s question Roonie couldnā€™t hear or understandā€¦ Somehow I canā€™t see Bill having to do that for HRC.

Itā€™s Okay If Youā€™re An Aging Republican

Then there was ā€œWhereā€™s the rest of meā€ film when RR woke up and had had his legs amputated.

McCain was 72 in 2008. The main concern about his age came because of his decision to choose an extremely unqualified VP - and an unqualified VP should be a concern no matter what the age or health of the president. Unless Hillary also chooses someone unqualified, her age should not be an issue.

Todd is quite out of touch with the Republican Party.

Reagan is no longer a Republican saint. He is rarely even mentioned by the party today - no one invokes Reagan any more for legitimacy or to rally the troops. At the Republican National Convention neither Romney nor Ryan ever invoked Reaganā€™s name ā€“ the only time the name crossed their lips (once each) was to refer to someone else who had worked for the ā€œReagan Administrationā€.

The fact is Reagan would be a RINO today and unceremoniously drummed out of the party - and the new far, far right Republican Party seems to realize that he is now that embarrassing uncle whose views no one wants to mention.

Not even that. There just has to be SOMEONE in the administration lucid enough to do it. Recall GW Bush, the man who turned his Presidency over to Dick Cheney.

Chuck, donā€™t know what you have been drinking lately but you have been handing it to the repubs( small R ) the last few times you seem to have been quoted.Benghazi for one now this. Not bad.

Dotting old White Guy Republican Alzheimer patient? No problem. Nominate him for sainthood and name everything from the garbage trucks to the Aircraft Carriers for him while worshiping his (misstated and untrue) record of ā€œGreatnessā€.
Sharp old White Woman Democrat? The scourge from hell, and ā€œtoo dangerousā€ to trust with that apocryphal ā€œ2 AM Callā€ from the Pentagon, and anyway; BENGHAZI!!!

The assumption could work if he and fellow media members continue to remind the public

Why would Reagan worship be deterred in the least? If you cloned Ronnieā€™s actual record onto some nobody today, that wannabe wouldnā€™t win a single GOP primary. Facts and history are pretty much irrelevant to worshipers.

I totally agree with you. GOP FUD will be a sight to behold in 2016.

My only point is that countering with Reaganā€™s age in the 2016 election will be meaningless. This is just Chuck Todd blathering.

It is fair to judge whether someone is fit for office from a health perspective. The GOP attacks wonā€™t necessarily be reasonable but HRC isnā€™t exactly a doddering, old woman with spittle dribbling out the side of her mouth. The attacks wonā€™t pass the ā€œsniffā€ test for most voters. There is no need to even raise the Reagan issue.

Hillaryā€™s age is an issue because she would be the second oldest to become president.

Its sad, but society is less tolerant/supportive of older women and is likely to look much closer at this issue than they might with a man.

I imagine scarborough peed himself when Todd said that about Joeā€™s only hero.

Reaganā€™s record has nothing to do with the repugs worship of him. Itā€™s all based on the hype since he died. The repugs have lied to create the myth of Reagan.

My thoughts exactly, but to be fair, the Toddster is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

ā€œKingā€™s Row.ā€ Reagan was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance. The movie is not ā€œThe Grapes of Wrathā€, but it does portray petty, malicious resentment from the social/economic well-to-do for those living ā€œon the wrong side of the tracks.ā€ Reagan sympathetically portrayed a hard-working populist whose legs were unnecessarily amputated for revenge.

Iā€™ve seen Kingā€™s Row several times, and I have to admit itā€™s a fairly good movie with a good cast. Iā€™m never sure if people remember it because it was from the Forties. Didnā€™t realize heā€™d been nominated.

Itā€™s a well-known axiom among actors that cute animals will always steal the scene. The ā€œBonzoā€ movies now seem formulaic, period pieces, but they can still entertain. Ronald Reagan was a competent, popular actor playing likeable ā€œ2nd bananasā€ back in his day.

Yet there are TPers crowing on ā€œPoliticoā€ (which they regard as mainstream/LEFTist) that Sasseā€™s victory was a victory for freedom and ā€œReaganism.ā€
