Discussion: Will Nadler Subpoena Mueller To Testify? 'Um....' He Says

ā€œMr. Mueller, um, told us a lot of what we need to hear today,ā€ Nadler said, without going further.

Honestly, did Mueller tell us anything that we didn’t already know? He emphasized some things, but they were already in the report. I’m confused as to why so many people are screaming for action when, from what I can tell, he hasn’t said anything new?

Because Democrats are stalling.

I don’t get it either. He re-emphasized some things for the apparently hard-of-hearing press, but nothing new.

Also, that ā€˜um’ in the headline is out of context and too click-baity. C’mon TPM, don’t go down this road that you are clearly going down…

ā€œit falls to Congress to respond to the crimes, lies, and other wrongdoing of President Trump. We will do so.ā€

AND THIS TIME HE MEANS IT!!awq312312312w#@as3qw2de31q2w1a11`!1!!!

ā€œMr. Mueller, um, told us a lot of what we need to hear today,ā€ Nadler said, without going further.

Asked about impeaching President Trump for obstructing justice in the probe, Nadler said, ā€œall options are on the table.ā€

When can such passion for pressing Dems be directed at rethugs? Do they have no responsibility? Why are Dems treated as if they were guilty while rethugs get to hide?

For the hard-of-hearing, for those who can’t read, and for those who refuse to read…

This presser was interesting to me.

I think Nadler had come there with prepared remarks and ready to do a full presser, but then he appeared to cut things short abruptly, probably after having read Pelosi’s statement.

I think this might be a positive step. Everyone supports Nancy and respects her as the leader, but clearly a majority of the party and 6 or 7 candidates disagree w/her current position on the path forward on the issue of opening a formal impeachment inquiry. Nancy knows that’s not sustainable for her in the long run.

If Nancy called Nadler to walk it back a bit, I think it’s because she read the room and knew that today is no ordinary day in the history of the Mueller probe. It’s bigger than that. Nancy has asked a lot of her committee chairs without really letting them get unleashed. She might now be willing to talk this through with everyone and chart a path forward instead of responding to events and crises.

I like to think of it as the big brother or sister syndrome. Were you an older sibling? Remember being told that you had to be the one that acted like the adult while your little sibling teased or otherwise drove you fucking crazy and started a fight?

Nothing new, but the hope is that what Mueller actually said will break through the ā€œbothsiderismā€ and conflating ā€œimpeaching Trumpā€ with ā€œopening an impeachment investigationā€ that the Media keeps doing… GRRRRRR…

Do the second, then see about the first.

What I don’t know is if Mueller really does not want to testify, or that he only wants to do so when forced to do so, so that he will not look like a political actor.

Ah! So the deplorables, the Freedom Caucus, and the regular GOP?

Democrats really need to get with the program. To the public — the obstruction issue is much less likely to resonate. The really need to be going after the underlying evidence behind the ā€œinsufficient evidenceā€ of conspiracy. There is evidence there. What is it? THIS is what needs to be heard in open congressional testimony. This is what will bring the public around to the ā€œwhyā€ behind the coverup.

Start an impeachment trial and bring in Mueller as the first witness to set the stage. That’s also when the Dems will enter the Mueller report and its underlying evidence into the proceedings. With that baseline established they can then bring in witnesses to either repeat for the television cameras and the nation what they said to the grand jury, or to commit perjury, or to take the 5th.

Nope. He really didn’t, but we shouldn’t discount the possibility that literally hearing it from the horse’s mouth while the cameras are rolling live can have a certain impact for public opinion. It certainly makes it harder for Trump’s crew to lie about what Mueller said in the report when he’s on record publicly stating what he himself actually said in the report.

There’s no reason to believe at this point that Mueller’s presser will have any magic effect or shift things dramatically, which is what people seem to be assuming and reacting to, but it does present the possibility. I think it’s premature to react right now as if it’s a game changer. Let’s see what the numbers tell us in the coming days.

Yep

Or she’s awash in a flood of fundraising money and doesn’t want to disturb the golden goose that is Trump-fueled anger.

He said it on camera – that does make a difference, because … Media

But the reason why people are screaming for action is that this is a chance to get the impeachment issue back on the right track.

Dems need the focus of impeachment to be on the russia attack. And the more Dems dilly dally, the more it becomes about partisan crap and personal feuds.

So yeah, people are screaming, because this is time limited. Dems have to act fast, and keep the focus on the Russia attack.

It is directed at the GOP…

The Dem leadership are standing in the way of those efforts. We’re trying to get the leadership to press in the same direction, rather than sit on the sidelines worrying about whether some centrist from a district that Trump won in 2016 will get re-elected.

It’s on the right track. And the ā€œpeople screamingā€ are a small vocal minority.

Hardly. You provide no reasoning to back that up because there is none that would pass a giggle test.

Fuck that they do. There’s no reason for that either. The obstruction evidence is fantastic as well. The focus needs to be on the fact that everything Trump does is corrupt, which is why everything he touches dies.

ETA: And I say that because where any one particular act or omission, isolated out of context, might be arguably insufficient grounds for impeachment, a paraded litany of them can form a whole that simply shows the motherfucker to be profoundly unfit for office.
