Discussion for article #230984
Cutting their own throats by siding with the ultra right faction of our Government. And people wonder why I’m registered as an Independent.
They do this while at the same time try to figure out why people don’t run out and vote for democrats. Are mirrors really that hard to find?
Shame. I suspect weed is going to be sorely needed in D.C. for the next two years.
And Dems want to understand why they lose elections like we did this NOV. They want to know why young people don’t come out to vote. They want to know why democracy is suffering in America. Look in the mirror.
Stupid times 2:
-
Funding is not required for something to be legal. My local government isn’t funded for literally infinite legal things.
-
I will never donate the the national Democratic organizations again if they do this. It’s fundamentally abhorrent to punish people for their herbal preferences.
I genuinely can’t imagine what the Dems could have gotten in exchange for this. The voters of DC voted on this and they want weed decriminalized. The blow back for the Dems on overturning the will of the people on a democratically held vote would be huge. I can’t see what there is to gain on it. Keeping the government open in exchange for THIS?? It’s a total loser both in terms of actual democracy (what’s left of it in this country) and in the court of public opinion.
Smokin some dope.
The one thing that had a chance of getting the RWNJ-pols off the ledge…

It wouldn’t just be young people, it would be MANY people who would find this to be absolutely unacceptable. Essentially, any legal vote in this country could be destroyed for - well, what?? I mean, the Repubs are threatening to shut the government down. OK. let them. It’ll be the first in many such instances in the next two years. Get used to it.
Does this mean that ANY democratically elected legislation gets thrown out the window after the fact because the Repubs don’t like what the voters wanted??? I’m not understanding this at all…
The peons are clearly not allowed to have what they want. Gotta keep all the rich people who don’t even live in the fucking place happy.
What the actual fuck do the Democrats stand to gain by pissing off their base on this issue? Goddamnit this party is stupid.
Yes, don’t donate to them for passing something you say is largely meaningless as part of a necessary funding bill deal since funding isn’t necessary. Helping Republicans will surely help the movement toward marijuana legislation.
An article linked says this:
“No one has seen the language of the bill yet, so it is unclear exactly how it will block the law, or possibly block D.C. from spending money on it in a way that renders the law meaningless.”
Uh huh. What “funding” is necessary here? If it is decriminalized why is funding necessary? Serious question, since I’m sort of unclear on the answer.
The Post article says DC would be able to stop going after people for possession. Which makes sense, because even if Harris got all he wanted, the city could simply refuse to arrest anybody for possession. But the city would be barred from using any funds to make regs, issue permits, etc. involving legal sales (like the shops in Colorado or Amsterdam) or to tax the sales.
It’s stupid as hell, and it’s ironic to see so-called “tea partiers” piss all over democracy in order to keep fighting a failed federal government war on drugs . . . but - and I know I’m going to be slammed for this - it still represents a net improvement over the status quo. If it means Democrats can avoid a shutdown or some of the other obscene riders the GOP is pushing, I can understand why they’d agree to this. I voted for 71, but life will go on.
More spineless douchebaggery from the Dems. This is completely unacceptable and a great way of highlighting why the GOP/Teatrolls stuck their feet up the Dems twats in November 2014 and wore them like house slippers.
If this is done I will also stop all contributions to the Democratic Party.
So the idiotic War On Drugs continues. The Private Prison Industrial Complex certainly has spread around enough cash on this one I’m sure . . . . .
So essentially, it is legal but the city cannot collect any tax revenues from it?
What’s not to like? Grow your own plants and don’t worry bout a thing, every little things gonna be alright.
Rise up this morning smile at the rising sun, three little birds upon my door step, singing sweet songs…
Yeah, it’s a stupid Dems to do, but equally stupid are the people that refuse to vote for Democrats (or vote of a third party) because of this issue. They remind me too much of no-compromise ®s.
While I think this “compromise” or concession is beyond stupid and smacks of all-too-familiar desperation on the Democrats’ part, I’m employed by state government and work on a federal contract. If the federal government shuts down, we go dark, and unless our state agency can “find something for us to do” in the meantime, I’m furloughed with no possibility of back pay. I would be incensed if the government shut down over weed. Because, sorry, weed is fun and all, but I have bills to pay.
