Discussion for article #234847
An amendment to a law clarifying that the bill, which allows discrimination because of religious objections, doesn’t allow for discrimination. M’kay.
OK, now THIS hurts. Good for Tweedy to be out in front on this.
Tweedy can be a real jerk, but good for him on this.
Somebody buy that dude a comb.
And then get off my lawn.
I’m not familiar with this group, but am familiar with the issue, and glad to see the momentum building by way of boycotts. Let the governor and his minions suffer the consequences of their barely thinly veiled discrimination.
I mean look, it’s not like anyone WANTS to go to Indiana anyway, so no big loss to boycott the state.
The trick will be in writing the clarification to allow and not allow discrimination at the same time.
This is what people are supposed to do to fight back.
I never heard what the genesis of this bill was, and who was really asking for it. Was it just Pence trying to make points with his “base” of bigots to pad his resume for a run at the presidency? Business didn’t want this, for sure.
More of this, please.
This is a one of the few perks of capitalism; Some people have enough they don’t need to make more.
Had enough yet Pence?
Our Pastor’s wife works in the County Clerks office and the issue of gay marriage is a very touchy subject. She has shared with us that they were looking at how to let government officials who had objections out of performing same-sex marriage or issuing marriage license. One plan was to only allow judges to perform marriages. I imagine this law grew out of that effort.
Not sure how the bill can both “protect business owners who refuse to serve gay couples because of religious objections” and not “allow for discrimination” Is there a different color sky in Indiana too?
Excellent!
Oh, who’s Wilco?
Hooray for anyone who boycotts Indiana. They deserve all the misery that can be sent.
There are already easy solutions for government officials that don’t want/refuse to carry out their duties in an unbiased fashion… resignation/termination.
Where is John Mellencamp on this issue? His silence is troubling. I expect more from him. He is a major donor to UI and holds many events in the State. He should be out front on this idiotic law born of lies and hate.

I met Jeff Tweedy a few times back in the early 90s, when he wasn’t yet in a mega-band (he was in Uncle Tupelo, a great alt-rock band). He was a stand-up guy then, and clearly is a stand-up guy now.
I absolutely love the snowballing effect these responses are having. Hit the state where it hurts and let’s see how long these clowns can stay in office (or reverse what they’ve done).
