“I was looking forward to asking him why he misled me during his last appearance, one year ago, when he asserted that the Justice Department was ‘the one who made the request’ to include a controversial citizenship question on the Census,” Leahy said in a statement. “That was false: It was Secretary Ross who first pressured a reluctant Justice Department. And two courts have since declared that the Secretary’s attempt to add the question was illegal.”

Was Secretary Ross sworn in prior to testimony?

If yes, where is the criminal referral for Lying to Congress?!?

I hear he has been slated for a guest appearance on What We Do in the Shadows.

Subpoena, dammit. Leahy is EXACTLY the kind of (D) Gopers love - respectful, dedecated to Constitutional rule, measured. In other words, a complete pushover. Why would ANY senior * officials respond to the House, when there’s exactly ZERO repercussions for thumbing their noses at Congress?

while I agree with your sentiments regarding leahy’s pusillanimous pussyfooting, the GOP controls the Senate, so as a Dem Leahy can’t get a subpoena

Hey Leahy why not ask Kobach to come testify in Ross’ stead? Let’s get an on the record airing of why this important for voting rights.

He did not have to be under oath.

It is a felony to falsify, conceal, or cover up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact; make any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or make or use any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement in connection with any investigation or review conducted pursuant to the authority of any committee, subcommittee, commission or office of the Congress. 18 US Code §1001

That’s correct. And he should be given, at minimum, a 48-month time-out in a federal prison to gather his thoughts.

He did not have to be under oath.

So again then, where is the criminal referral?

Leahy is only the ranking Senator, not the Chair.

As long as republicans are the majority in the Senate, we will not see any subpoenas being issued to any Cabinet member of WH official from the Senate.

Ross makes “invitation” avoidance a normal thing for cabinet secretaries. As Ross flipped Congress the bird, so Barr will do the same next week just because its ”acceptable” protocol. Nadler and Schiff should start the subpoena process today…on both these old, evil, rotten men.

Crap. This is serious. I could be facing a felony charge for every fax I sent that used “Dear Senator McConnell” as a greeting instead of “Reviled Pustulent Turtle Scrotum.”

Oh. Okay. I guess I got worked up for nothing. I was pretty scared, though. The Senate gave Kavanaugh a life sentence for all his false statements.
