Discussion: WI Clerk Cites Students' Dem Lean As Reason Not To Open Campus Voting Site

“I have heard it said that students lean more toward the democrats”

Wonder why?

“She added, however, “I was reading the statutes and read: No site may be designated that affords an advantage to any political party.””

then

““UWGB is a polling location for students and residents on Election Day but I feel by asking for this to be the site for early voting is encouraging the students to vote more than benefiting the city as a whole…I have heard that that students lean more toward the democrats”

Thus, according to her brain-damaged “logic,” polling stations may only be placed where the results would be 50/50, always resulting in a tie. I’m trying so hard to stop filling the jar, people, but at least I’m just yelling it out loud instead fo typing it I suppose.

Having locals run the election process, without uniform federal guidelines, leads to this kind of crap.

I really wish all these prominent Democrats had been more nuanced when slamming Trump for his accusations about election-rigging. Seriously, after all that, how can any Democrat stand up and point out this blatant example?

Here’s more info! The woman should be charged as a domestic terrorist and sent to Syria for detention and little waterboarding!

“I was reading the statutes and read: No site may be designated that affords an advantage to any political party.”

Color me skeptical. If there is such a law in WI (which I doubt), someone needs to challenge it. The law should be that sites should not be distributed to statistically advantage or disadvantage one group of voters – whether by race, religion, economic class, or political party. Individual polling sites are nearly always in a neighborhood that favors one party and.over-represents one group. What matters is whether there’s a statewide pattern of favoring or disadvantaging a group.

The GOP and rightwing radio (esp. rightwing radio which is allowed to say things GOP politicians used to only hint at) has delegitimized one voting group after another–blacks, students, Hispanics, Muslims, teachers, the Hmong in California. And if you’re a lackey like this clerk and you’ve been fed these lies for years and years day after day, you start thinking these aren’t really Americans like you.

Does her action, in which she admits to voter suppression, leave this woman and her superiors vulnerable to criminal charges or civil action?

She added, however, “I was reading the statutes and read: No site may be designated that affords an advantage to any political party.”

Whether or not her supposition is true about students voting Democratic this statute as written would allow no polling sites whatsoever. Any site no matter how carefully selected will skew left or right. I guarantee that sites exist that skew far right thus removing any fig leaf of respectibility from this decision not to open an early voting site for college students.

Make it harder for a few thousand to early vote here in WI, a few thousand in Nevada, a few thousand in Florida, and hey, we just turned the election.

Two Nevada Native American tribes sued the state becuase they had to travel up to 100 miles to early vote. A judge ruled for them, against the state of NV, and 9 more tribes want in now, citing round trips of 200 miles to early vote.

This is always my answer to people who claim a “liberal bias” in the media…

You problem isn’t that there’s a liberal bias in polls and the media, it’s that there’s a liberal bias in reality. Have fun crying on election day…
