Discussion: Why The GOP's Obamacare Repeal May Doom Their Replacement

Does any Republican in the House or Senate have a healthcare policy wonk working for them? Do they even understand how the ACA works? Did those who were around when it passed finally read it, or have a staff member read it?

The GOP has no intention of replacing Obamacare.

It’s very important (maybe even existential) to the GOP that President Obama have no legacy. Even if if means the destruction of the United States.

none of this matters because the media and the usual hacks will spin it for the idiots…remember no such things as facts??

quick point to mr josh…Marshall
“Tillerson’s ties to Russia, his lack of any conventional foreign policy experience (despite having contended with various world leaders) and status as an oil company executive, just why did Trump pick him?”

ALL the people being picked for roles in this horror going on…are fans of ayn rand…THAT is the tie that binds them ALL>

Even our local rag the quasi conservative Orlando Sentinel ran a half page piece this AM giving all the reasons why it’s impossible .
The problem with these fools is it disproportionately affects Red States , it has always been a Republican plan and Doctors Hospitals and Insurance companies love it .
Obama 3 dimensional chess will haunt them from the grave .

This is not a bug. It’s a feature.

The strategy, as Republicans themselves describe it, is to kill programs indirectly, as far from public view as possible, by stripping their funding so they “wither on the vine.” It’s been their fantasy for decades, and suddenly they have the chance to actually do it.

They’re trying to take us back to 1933. In more ways than one.

Who needs a health care wonk when their guiding star is Ayn Rand?

The Dems need to have their plublicity forces ready to go and constantly hammer home the losses to the masses from the ACA, Social Security and Medicare. This must be a everyday talking point to every question, every interview, every speech given by a dem. The demise of the ACA has been created by the R’s propaganda machine not by facts and the Dems not recognizing the need to continue with the education of the masses after the ACA was passed into law

Want a clue as to how ACA repeal will play out? Look at Kentucky where Bevin killed Kynect. After it was gone Kentucky swung even further to the GOP since Bevin blamed Obama. And the voters were dumb enough to believe that.

The same type of dumb voters down in Louisiana who blamed Obama for Katrina…

Wrong! They’re replacing it with JoniErnstCare! As Joni says, if you are truly needy, go to a church and ask for help and they will gladly assist you with a bake sale or two for you!..in the name of Ayn Rand, er, Jesus :smiling_imp:

Thank you!!! As far as I’m concerned, you just nailed this on the head. Dismantling the ACA predominately will affect Red states and will add towards making them unlivable and ungovernable.

I’ve been giving this some thought and I really think this marks the point where the individual states take control over their citizens even more than the Federal government. I could see the Blue states basically continuing the ACA with the assistance of the health insurance companies who might get money from the Feds to keep it going in those places. That way, the Feds can say, “Yup Obamacare is no longer an intrusive gov’t. run program” and the health ins. co. just keep running it in the states that have the most money and the healthiest patients.

Feral trumpers have no idea how they’ve cut their own throats.

Part of Obama’s diabolical plan.

I thought Republicans only cared whether or not programs are funded when the President is a Democrat.

Whatever the Republicans want to do, there will be enough Dems joining them to get it done. There is no opposition party, only a compliant minority.

Very true. Amazing how states’ rights suddenly became a blue priority. Jerry Brown said yesterday that if Trump guts climate research California will “launch its own damn satellite.” He would do it too.

And the PR of China might be willing to help. Just to piss off Pospotus

Actually, The Pubbies would shit bricks if Jerry Brown and the Gov.s of WA, and OR, were to visit China together to discuss trade and ‘issues of mutual’ interest in the near future.

Alms for the rich! Alms for the rich!

How can the democrats be so lame at messaging this in a way that even the dumbest among us can understand?

Sort of related and interesting article in Vox.com yesterday by Sarah Kliff called “Why Obamacare Enrollees Voted for Trump”.

The whole problem here, for republicans, is it’s OBAMAcare. A democrat took republican ideas that began with the Heritage Foundation and then filtered into ROMNEYcare in Massachusetts to craft his signature program. Call it McConnellcare or GOPERcare and the republicans will twist themselves into gordian knots of logic to say how good it is

Maybe that’s their goal — no replacement at all. They want to completely dismantle the social safety net — Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare. The Democrats need to start taliking about this now, loudly, on every MSM media outlet. We need a leader to do this, every day, or else they will get away with dismantling everything, before anyone realizes it.
