Discussion for article #230173
I like this “Go Fuck Yourselves” version of Obama.
The Republican meme that this agreement will hamper the US economically with new job-killing regulations while giving China a pass to do nothing for years is simply untrue.
Actually, the US would not have to make a lot of changes to meet these goals.
In addition to the recent EPA regulations to limit greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, the auto companies in recent years agreed to almost double their fuel efficiency by 2025. This will sharply decrease the pollution from autos, in addition to promoting energy independence.
These two items – the new power-plant emission rules and the agreement to boost fuel mileage – will get us a good way toward meeting our commitment with China. Further yardage can be obtained by the continued adoption of solar and other renewable energy sources, a new generation of higher-efficiency appliances, and weatherproofing of homes and buildings.
On a lighter note, how soon before we can expect Ted Cruz to sputter about seeing Obama “swilling chardonnay” with the Chinese elite?
