Discussion for article #239394
Has PP hired a professional image consultant and damage control firm? Because if they have not, they are heading down the drain.
Excuse me Lauren, but what is this “WE” shit?
It’s not us doing the damage. WE are not the ones with the national platform and microphone…YOU ARE. YOU, in the media. YOU are the ones harping on the 3 percent information. YOU are the ones who don’t push back when that 3 percent is shoved front and centre in any discussion about Planned Parenthood. YOU are the ones who write endless articles and op-eds about the opponents of women’s health care - including abortion services - without ever pushing back against the lies and mistreatment of fact that occurs daily. No, YOU with the largest platform and biggest stick to fight this battle, prefer to blame US, the ones on the front line actually fighting it.
YOU in the media have been on the front lines of advancing that meme moreso than WE the people have. So own up to your own gotdamn failings as an alleged feminist and journalist. Because I am tired of being blamed for all the lazy journalistic practices that make up this WE shit you’re pushing in this tripe.
Get your OWN fucking house in order first, lady. Then come talk to us out here in the real world who are fighting to be heard on what PP offers.
You seriously need to take a chill pill pal. PP isn’t going anywhere and your endless “sky is falling” meme is getting tired.
If you support it, support it without conditions. Or step out of the way and let us that do finish what we started and you can go have a gotdamn seat.
"Planned Parenthood has enlisted high-profile Washington public relations firm SKDKnickerbocker as it scrambles to deal with the ongoing scandal and release of a third undercover video Tuesday showing a clinic’s staff handling fetal tissue after an abortion.
Obviously they are way ahead of you, and obviously they are thinking exactly what I am thinking. You should work on thinking a little sometime.
This defense should be enough: Planned Parenthood helps women, and every dollar sent to the organization saves four dollars elsewhere.
Or here’s an idea - go have a fucking seat and let the people invested in the future of PP do the work since all you seem interested in doing is tearing it down and calling it a lame duck. Over, and over, and over. Ad nauseum. Have to say you seem awfully invested in the failure of this organization. I wonder why?
Hiring a PR firm is nothing new for PP. This same baseline attack was done in 2011 (in case you want to take your own fucking advice and THINK, and perhaps do a little research…2011 wasn’t that long ago, I’m sure Dr. Google could help you out) and PP is still standing.
Do you even remember the original attacks in 2011? Out of the O’Keefe clan? These new attacks recycled the same old plot line with a different script, and it’s still failing. They didn’t lose funding then, and they won’t lose it now. There’s already been one vote shot down - did you know that or were you too busy digging out that article from that conservative rag Politico to notice? I realize that seems hard for your brain to grasp, but grasp it you should.
The only thing that isn’t failing is the media’s inability to tell the whole fucking story, and write facile op eds like this one. Which of course is where you and your Chicken Little presumptions come in. So, slow clap for you!
What fatuous right-wing twaddle.
The only scandal is the doctored videos—filled with deceptive edits and designed to obscure the facts----and the idiots like you who fell for the scam hook line and sinker.
Conservative blowhards who don’t believe women should control their own bodily functions—including having sexual relations for fun—are the cause of all this sturm und drang.
It’s all bullshit, and you know it.
Morons like you think that truth matters in this issue. Well, clueless wonder, truth does not matter, and image is everything. That’s why I am relieved to see that they understand this, although you are too stupid to follow the issue. I’ve supported PP with a continuing pledge for about 10 years. You?
I’ve supported PP most of my life—my mother worked with PP in the early 60s and beyond.
Planned Parenthood isn’t the only target This is aimed right at Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and any Democrat who supports Planned Parenthood as a key element in allowing women to control their own destiny. This is intended to wrong foot democrats by demanding they defend the indefensible - which has been manufactured not just to take out Planned Parenthood, but to give GOP candidates red meat for their base and feed the usual one hand-other hand news coverage.
No democrat should apologize, quibble, or try to explain away the videos - the proper response is a counterattack.
- Why are you repeating lies told by people with a history of criminal behavior and violence against women?
- Why are you supporting groups that have murdered doctors?
- Why are you giving any credence to people who repeatedly lie because they can’t win on the facts and they can’t win on merits of their arguments?
- Why are you aiding people who want to deny thousands of women the health care they need, want, and are legally entitled to?
They’ve gone beyond the pale with this. They need to be pushed back hard.
Ad hom attacks in the service of your failed and disgusting worldview.
Truth always matters—except to conservatives, who run from it as if it were poisonous.
And you’re as full of shit as a two-hole outhouse.
When the second video came out, I pledged to send PP $20 for every video that came out, and (I think) I’ve kept up with this. If you’re a regular person who gives a crap, this is what you do–help by giving something substantial.
There’s a basic logic behind PP’s reminders that it provides many services; that being, it’s true. The assertion that PP helps prevent abortions is a powerful point, and it’s worth emphasizing.
When I’ve thought of my own stance on abortion, it’s usually begun with the feeling that every abortion is a tragedy. I still see it that way, despite my support for the pro-choice camp.
I wonder whether the writer would agree that every abortion is a tragedy. For the civilized, it’s a war of words, after all.
Good, then we both have strong interests in the continued success of PP in providing all forms of services to those who need them.
I agree. The 3% argument is meeting the religio-fascists on the battlefield of their choosing. You NEVER do that. EVER.
The argument should be this and this alone: “There is a constitutional right to abortion and we’re not doing anything fucking wrong when it comes to the tissue donations. PROVE. OTHERWISE. OR. GO. FUCK. YOURSELVES.”
That should be the message to the media. Full stop. Because I’m saying a version of this to anyone who brings up all the lies and memes and bullshit. My problem of course is that for every 20 articles/op eds written on this subject, 2 or 3 cover the facts and the rest spend paragraphs on the 3%.
It’s fighting an uphill battle and Lauren Rankin ought to fucking know better. REALLY ought to know better.
We have to stop inferring that abortion it isn’t really health care, that it’s okay to deny government funding to it.
This is actually a really good point, one that I hadn’t really thought about. The pro-choice side has made huge concessions. As a matter of argument I like being able to say “these attacks on PP are misguided; federal money can’t go towards abortion anyways” when I should be saying “fck you, you’ve already somehow managed to take money away from people for their own healthcare choices, it’s not going any fcking further.” We’re losing when we see abortion as different than health care in general.
To coin a phrase, you seriously need to take a chill pill pal.
Assailing everyone who writes anything about the subject as part of this blob called “the media” and saying they’re the ones who need to fix this isn’t really accurate or helpful.
Yeah, good thought that. My comment about the need for a crisis management firm was attacked as “tearing it down” and similar lame over-the-top stupidity. And then, guess what? I was right. They did need to talk to a crisis management firm, and they actually have. Bravo to them.
The point of this, and other issues, is not the facts. The facts are IRRELEVANT. TOTALLY NOT THE POINT. The issue is PERCEPTION of the facts. PP has a firm which will work on perception, and this has probably led to the recent stories about the use of fetal tissue. The more folks realize that 1) fetal tissue has legit uses 2) it is used with consent signed, and 3) there are costs involved with tissue storage, management, etc which are legit and appropriate. These facts are coming out, and the perception is changing. However, the attacks will continue. I hope PP has a long-term contract with this firm.
Every company/organization that gets into a perception problem like this needs professional assistance. Thank goodness PP realized that.
