Discussion for article #236542
Bernie Sanders has no chance of winning either. But he is still running. And I think not only good, but necessary that he be heard in the debates. A lot of Republicans feel the same way about Christie. Frankly there have been lots of candidates who run for President that have no chance of winning, but were good to have in debates. Ron Paul has always been great in the Republican debates.
So I’m guessing that’s why Christie is running. He also loves the attention, he’s obviously a big ego guy.
After Steven Colbert illustrated what you can do with the left over money, the answer should be obvious!
Good article, but you left out the obvious:
-Christie has a bad case of Sarah Palinitis-he’s addicted to the attention the perks,he’s not an effective governor (a purer creature of the Koch brothers you’ll never find) and he’s never been committed to being Governor.
Christie has been performing a continual orgy of self-celebration for 5+ years; there’s nothing good waiting for him back in NJ so he’s stretching it out in hopes of a miracle that keeps him from having to return to the small time.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Christie go full Palin, resign from the term he committed to and seize the best grift he can get his hands on. He’s created a mess here that can’t be repaired quickly.

What the home folks think:
"TRENTON — Gov. Chris
Christie insists the reason why most New Jersey voters say he would not
make a good president is because they actually want him to remain as
their governor, he said in an interview to air on Fox News Channel’s
“The Kelly File” at 9 p.m. on Monday.
An April 20th Quinnipiac University poll
found that 65 percent of Garden State voters think Christie would not
make a good president, compared to only 29 percent who think he would.
“They want me to stay,” Christie told Fox’s Megyn Kelly, "A lot of
those people in that 65 percent want me to stay. And I’ve heard that
from lots of people at town hall meetings. 'Don’t leave to run for
president because we want you to stay. ’ "
Home folks:
"Gov. Chris Christie’s hypothesis that the vast majority of New Jersey voters don’t think he would make a good president because they want him to stay as governor is about to be tested.
Monmouth University pollster Patrick Murray said his next New Jersey poll on Christie will zero-in on that.
“It’s asking that question — ‘Do you think he’d make a good
president?’ — and then specifically asking if it’s because you don’t
think he has the qualifications to be president or if you’d prefer him
to stay home and be governor,” Murray told The Auditor. “And a bunch of
follow-up questions.”
Despite all of the problems Chris Christie has created in New Jersey, he is still the best Presidential candidate in the Republican pool. He is much smarter and more competent, less corrupt and more charismatic than folks like Jebya Bush, Donald Tramp, Scott Walker, John Boehner, Ted Cruz, Rick Perry and others.
disagree on the less corrupt - he is more … but they all are toxicly corrupt at above lethal levels.
Probably positioning for post-2017 career in wingnut welfare?
For two reasons…money, and the fact New Jersey wants him to stay out of the state.
“Less corrupt, than folks like Jebya Bush, Donald Tramp, Scott Walker, John Boehner, Ted Cruz, Rick Perry and others.”
Wow! That bar for corruption must be shamelessly low. I expect the prospects for a Christie indictment are more probable than not, to use a phrase from the NFL “Deflategate” report. Even disregarding the GW Bridge lane closure scandal, there’s the state pension fund investment fees matter and the Port Authority financing cesspool.
There is so much dirt lying barely beneath the surface that it seems only a matter of time before the Outlaw Jersey Whale is fitted for an orange jumpsuit.
Even in New Hampshire, a more naturally congenial state for Christie and one where he’s spent a lot of time, he’s not doing well. A May 6 WMUR/UNH survey showed him running tenth in the Granite State—behind Carly Fiorina—with 3 percent of the vote. And his favorable/unfavorable ratio, while better than it is nationally, was still underwater at 39/40
Oh, my. How embarrassing. Gov. Christie, why not bow out now while you can still do it with a little grace? The longer you wait, the stupider you look. (Free advice from someone who has watched our national politics since Reagan’s time in the White House).
LOL.
Alright, since you’ve lowered the discussion to calories, it does make me wonder that if from now on we’ll witness Christie’s waist start expanding … you know, now that it’s pretty evident he ain’t gonna be leaving New Jersey for the White House anytime, ever. Maybe he’s kicking himself for foregoing all those damned donuts!
Why On Earth Is Chris Christie Still Pretending To Run For President? Because he has an insatiable appetite in MORE THAN ONE way!
He’s just a glutton … for punishment – and
Much of Christie’s poor polling is likely from fans of William Howard Taft, fearful a Christie victory would see him supplant Taft as the heaviest man to occupy the Oval Office. Some records are difficult to see broken, kinda like seeing Hank Aaron fall to the lowly Barry Bonds. Oh the humanity!!!
Spot on. I hadn’t realized just what a fatal case of Palinitis he had until I read the New York Times expose a few months back: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/03/nyregion/in-christies-career-a-fondness-forluxe-benefits-when-others-pay-the-bills.html
Agreed. When it comes to pure, unadulterated corruption (as opposed to delusional power madness), Christie ranks right up at the top of the list. Walker may be the only one who can match him.
