Why is Obama giving the Medal of Honor to a man who died in the Civil War? Because Barack HUSSEIN Obama hates America, that’s why!

So he’s honoring a C.O. who held his ground against a Confederate onslaught, thereby turning the tide for the Union? No symbolism there. Nope. Nuh-uh. None at all.

I think the description of what Cushing did and the effect it had was sufficient explanation of why.
There’s also the fact that it will drive the southern racist pigs crazy that he’s honoring another yankee from the war of northern aggression.

Really weird verb tenses in this article. Advice: stick with the simple past. None of this “Obama was bestowing” or “Two of Cushing’s cousins were to join”.

I guess we have to suffer through another two years of this anti-Obama crap. It’s called “The Congressional Medal of Honor”. It was awarded by an act of congress and presented to the recipient by their representative, the President of the United States. If you have a problem with all this, take it up with the Republicans in congress. This could have been approved without the President but not without the congress (as in “Congressional”).

Actually, the CSM is awarded by the military, i.e. the executive branch. It was authorized by Congress and is awarded on behalf of Congress and the American people, but the choosing gets done by military and the awarding by their Commander in Chief.
And yeah, we at least have to put up with two more years of trying to distinguish anti-Obama crap from faux anti-Obama crap snarking.

And the Magnolia State Heritage Campaign is hoping to have an entire month just to disrespect folks like Lt. Cushing.
Ironically, their month would start on April Fool’s Day.
This “repairs” one of the great mistakes of the Civil War, No one familiar with Cushing’s story would have denied him the Medal, in 1865, 1868, 1968, or now.
What I say to President Obama is this: Go on now and fix some of the other hundreds of cases where soldiers of colour were given lesser awards for acts just as selfless as Cushing. After the war, there was a great rush, mostly by the US Army, to roll back awarding of the CMH, Some white officers with famous last names got it twice, while others (no matter their race) were downgraded at the paperwork stage to lesser awards. And while you’re about fixing up Civil War records Mister President, how about “Upping” a few more folks from units like the 442nd, and the like, who got the Army shaft given to them in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam because they were soldiers of colour under bigoted white officers.
Maybe the repig congress will give the MOH to Pickett.
