In addition to those options, the family is almost certainly eligible to continue their coverage from Goldman on their own dime, although it might cost more than they want. If that isn’t a standard part of taking a leave (and it has been at the companies I’ve worked at) it should be covered under COBRA.

Also, I find it hard to believe that Cruz is looking into any of this personally, other than for rhetorical effect. He’s got enormous monetary and staff resources to get the most cost-effective option researched.

He lied, like it was breathing… Its what he does.

“his wife Heidi was frustrated that he had yet not found a replacement plan,”

Let me get this straight. A Goldman investment manager can’t research and select a health care insurance plan?

Cruz, “Now where did I leave those nuclear codes?”

See, they’re just regular ol’ folks, like you and me.

terminal asshole…

That’s probably the real reason he can’t find coverage… it’s a preexisting condition, and it’s chronic.

If he can’t manage an important household matter, how can we trust him to manage the nation’s pressing matters?

(for those folks who think managing the nation’s budget is just like managing a household budget)

Seriously stupid and irresponsible (if true) – “Sorry kids, we were so busy making a political point, we didn’t bother getting you health insurance, no prob, we can afford most basic care, and if you got a more devastating diagnosis, well, we’ll figure it out later. Gotta go, running for a job with the most responsibilities imaginable.”

Oh there is a cure alright! But a punch to the face would be a good start! Please get that on video!

It’s surprisingly unwise of Ted to promote a bullshit example of his experience as being representative of consumers, when that experience is so atypical that it simply has to be the result of his own screw-up – either unintentionally through incompetence, or intentionally to make a point. So easy to expose that he’s just being a con-artist (and a half-assed one at that).

What about his 2 lil darlings? No insurance for his girls? Bullshit

So in other words, it’s SOP for Cruz: he’s lying out his ass.

As someone pointed out, it seems that Heidi is perfectly capable of researching health insurance plans. I would also point out that BCBS is not the only insurance provider in Texas. And oh BTW, his other plan was a privately purchase individual plan and not from an exchange. Nothing to do with the ACA other than having to meet the 10 minimal essential elements.

I’m not sure why he needs a health plan at all. Over and over conservatives have said that nobody in the US goes without health care because the uncovered can just walk into an emergency room if things get really bad. Perhaps that is what Ted is planning on doing.

The story quoted in TPM’s report is well worth reading. Lots of Rs complain about ACA and what they is its lack of affordability simply so they can put on a hair shirt and suffer on camera

I would pay good money to see Cruz put on an actual hair shirt and suffer on camera.

From the LA Times article. Federal employees’ coverage is very generous

Cruz is still eligible for the government’s employer subsidy of up to 75% of his health insurance premium. He has said he wouldn’t accept the employer share, which makes his complaint about his cost of insurance just a teeny bit more dishonest because he’s the one driving up his own premium.
