… the Constitution requires a two-thirds vote of the Senate to convict. And that would be unlikely in a Republican-led Senate.
Says a lot that if Donald has done/is doing illegal stuff that republicans won’t impeach just because he’s a republican.
Just investigate and put the information out there for the American people to see. Demonstrate his criminality so clearly that only the blind, rabid MAGAts can deny it.
Build the case to the point that a true tsunami sweeps through the gerrymandered state legislatures and clean out the rot that is the modern rethuglican party.
Exactly this! Trump and the Republicans would love nothing more than to play (as they always do) the victim and portray the Democrats as being on personal vendettas. Let Trump’s criminality speak for itself and let the Republicans who stand behind his criminality pay the same price they paid in 2018.
Hear, Hear! Let’s not forget that Trump is a symptom, not the disease. 2020 should be about strengthening our civic immune system.
My public preference would be for trump to resign. That way his base can’t whine about evil democrats. Or praps his cabinet could invoke the 25th on his ass.
My private preference is an entirely different matter. (arrest, frog march to jail after lengthy conviction)
The only way the senate GOPers would turn on trump is if their reelections are going down the pooper. So I think the solution would be a massive snail mail campaign to every senator advocating trump’s resignation or impeachment or their ass is in an unemployment line.
And it does say a lot that senators would stand by a goddamned criminal.
REPUBLICAN BUY-IN NEEDED
Beginning, middle and end of the entire story.
And that would be unlikely in a Republican-led Senate.
RIght up top in the 21st paragraph.
AP writers must get paid by the word
I don’t think Dems are going to be able to avoid it. We know what Trump is, and any actual investigation (i.e. not an active whitewash) will find so much criminality that failing to impeach will make a mockery of the rule of law.
We’ll get there. But yeah, let’s let Mueller finish his work first, then hit the GOP with so much evidence that only someone with a Louie Gohmert brain can ignore it.

Strongly agree.
Let Mueller do his work first, meanwhile you can send the Senate bill after bill and DARE them to not do their job, which they won’t do. By the time Mueller’s finished, then you have lots and lots of ammo to use against Whiny Individual #1 in the impeachment but you also have ammo you can use against the GOP Cocksuckers in the 2020 Election.
MAGA!
Mueller is a smart guy - a thorough guy - may currently seem a bit plodding a bit like Mr. Miyagi - wax-on…wax-off & catching flies with chopsticks - but let’s see how it goes when it becomes showtime - remember he has piled up a substantial number of instances where individuals have chosen to plead guilty to actual crimes … it is almost a certainty that he has harvested an ample amount of substance out of all of that …
Willing to speculate that Mueller has crafted fail-safes and trap-doors and booby traps to insure that what he is assembling has multiple contingency pipelines to see the light of day (Mueller is not some naive rube attending his first rodeo) -
The real test will be the the Main event - the moment the point where he has to deliver … stride to the center of the ring and then start flinging bodies right and left in rapid fire process - if Mueller is magnificent - Trump will not know whether to Tweet or go blind … and very rapidly career GOPers will turn on him viciously - out of terrified self-preservation.
… if done poorly it will become a snooze fest
The House could impeach easily with their 235 Democratic members’ votes. It’s the scared shitless R-led Senate which won’t vote to convict.
Hear, hear. Show the public how corrupt Trump and his party are and Americans will be screaming for impeachment. Lawrence O’Donnell needs to back off his crazed desire for an immediate impeachment.
This conversation is premature, when the evidence of FatNixon’s numerous acts of obstruction, bribery, and conspiracy is laid out the calculus will change for both sides.
