Discussion: Who's Afraid of the Supreme Court? GOPers Vow to Defy Gay Marriage Ruling

Now is the time for the GOP contenders to demonstrate their devotion to Biblical guidance on marriage, and make the hard judgements just like Solomon.

How many wives did that guy have? One man, 300 women? Or was it closer to 1000 when you count concubines?

Simple solution. Strip them of their positions and they go to jail, go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Slap a few of these future felons in the pokey, and let’s see how they do…

I agree with almost all of your post except I’d like to point out that folks like the Kochs–who like to claim to be more libertarian and small government on social issues–never put their money where their mouth is (again, supposedly on the social issues). They’ve bought that total asshole Scott Walker, down to his underwear. The man has absolutely no integrity, cares not one whit about gays’ or women’s civil liberties. As long as idiots like the Kochs and the Walkers of the world exist, the road ahead will always be tougher to pave, much tougher than it should be. Unfortunately, there are many people in America with attitudes like the Kochs, where their pocketbooks are Number One and always trump out other issues. Perfect example is those two little turncoats in NYC who held the fundraiser for and gave money to Ted Cruz.

Or, Brown vs Board of Education. Are we going to have separate schools again for black and white? In their hearts, even these idiots probably know what they’re say is bs. But, they have to pander and get down in the mud and crawl in it to satisfy their dwindling followers. These are the poster people for how America has dumbed down.

Tierney asked if these “Constitutional” Republicans are advocating for a situation where the Loving Decision is nullified in some states.

Tierney, the answer is YES!

I noticed that all the “politicians” advocating this are male.

If they don’t believe in gay marriage, don’t marry a gay person.

If they don’t believe in equal protection under the law, move to Russia.

If the advocate for state sanctioned religion, move to the United Kingdom, but be careful: the Tory or Conservative party is not the same as the Teahadis.

To paraphrase Hillary Clinton: “what part of democracy is it that they are so afraid of?”

Or are they afraid that deep inside they might have a touch to “The Gay?”

I seriously hope the conservatives on the SC read about how little respect they get from the very party they serve and protect…its time they go ultra liberal in their rulings just to fling feces into the face of the teabag party.

I believe the Law was one wife, as many concubines as you could support and unlimited schtuping of Gentile girls, but if any of your wives or concubines were unfaithful to you, or just found ways to pass the time in the harem while waiting for the man to get back around to them again, DEATH! And no explicit limits on age for any of them that I recall.

I’m not confident that bringing this regime back isn’t the real agenda, honestly. At least not for the ones who prefer females.

Speaking of which, with this new demand for nullification, we once again see how the Villagers’ conspiracy of silence to protect their good friend Lindsey’s “privacy” is totally legit. I mean, aren’t we at least entitled to know whether he’d commit ground forces to stop the Court from ruling?

These Republican hate peddlers are impotent clowns. They have nothing else left to serve up to their loathsome and depraved TEAlibangelical, ignorant, fundie cesspool “base.”

They are on the wrong side of history, and the three assclowns featured at the header are on the wrong side of sanity. Let them go to Uganda or Iran and live with peoples that share their views.

I agree. But over time, gays will marry in states where they are allowed to. Many people (probably including myself) will start boycotting tourism in states that do this. Sporting organizations will start to move big-ticket events to other states. Married gays will be allowed to file jointly on taxes and will sue states (and win) if they are not allowed to. Within just a few years, even Texas will see the writing on the wall and quietly allow gays to marry. It is merely a matter of time.

So true. It was the Conservative PM who put forth legislation providing for marriage equality in the UK. So proud of what he did he broke with convention and announced publicly that the law had received Royal Assent within 10 minutes of Elizabeth’s signature.

The County clerks in Dallas County, Harris County (Houston), Bexar County (San Antonio), Travis County (Austin) and several other counties have publicly stated that they will begin issuing marriage licenses the day the Supreme Court issues a ruling allowing the marriages. The Legislature didn’t act to prevent this during this session, and doesn’t meet again until January 2017. By the time Texas “does something,” there will be nothing to do. Marriage equality in Texas will be a fait accompli.

Ben Carson of all people, with his knowledge that jail time makes you gay, should not be endorsing civil disobedience.

You mean they won’t be attending the John McCain Lindsey Graham nuptuals?

Yep. Weddings are a $50 billion/year industry. Even if same-sex ones are only 3 or 4 %, that’s still significant money, particularly since same-sex couples skew higher income, If you own a hotel or catering business in Alabama or Texas, you don’t want those people going out of state to get married. Money talks.

When some Republicans are determined to be correct on an issue, the nation is expected to support them fully. But when those Republicans are found to be wrong, they still stick to their guns. And their butters.

I’m kind of suprised not to see you chiming in about the fundamental threat to civil society that picking and choosing what judicial decisions we follow is. The court has power strictly because we all agree that is does. There are no judicial armies to enforce the rulings of the court and it relies on the legislative and executive branches to insure that the law is done. Ask the Cherokee how well the Worcester decision worked for them. I really am deeply concerned about the new nullifcation strain in the Republican Party. I thought we had snuffed this out in the 1970s, but here it is, back again.
