McConnell was saved from polio as a child thanks to government funded research and healthcare.
His gratitude is none existent. Where do humans develop such morals? If he was with polio today unjder his plan, he would be left without any resources to fight his disease…not even the research for the vaccine would be funded.
Amazing times we live in. I guess the answer is everyone should buy and carry a loaded gun…that seems to be the only right in the US these days.
Ted Cruz hasn’t been in the lime light for quite a while so we should be prepared for his need to get his “attention fix,” a pre-existing condition, and making an ass of himself, also a pre-existing condition.
My first guess would have been to watch all the Trump voters who are going to get bigly shafted by this farce of a repeal.
I keep on having this horrible thought, which is to find all the paranoid schizophrenics in the US, and all the crazy fans of stars, and email them with, “did YOU know that Jodie Foster [Insert star name] is fucking Ted Cruz [Insert evil Senator name]”. I have this thought a dozen times per day.
You have a sedge of cranes, a murder of crows, a badling of ducks, a convocation of eagles, even an array of hedgehogs.
Why not a concupiscence of Republican legislators?
These people want to screw everybody, even their own supporters.
I think we have a Senate of Murderers—the little known collective for murderer, as it turns out.
John Boehner:
“Ted Cruz is Lucifer in the flesh. I have never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.”
Peter King, in response:
“John Boehner gives Lucifer a bad name by comparing him to Ted Cruz.”
Susan Collins is one of the biggest frauds in the Senate. One report this morning said she is tired of being what she has always been— the one McConnell can always count on to take one for the Republican team. She will vote for this bill even if it takes away the union suits and Maine Hunting Shoes of all of her constituents, because in the end, that is what she does.
You can bet that Republican Senators are getting angry phone calls from private insurance lobbyists who are furious about losing Medicaid revenue since Medicaid managed care has been one of the fastest growing sectors of the private health insurance industry. They’re also getting angry phone calls from hospital and nursing home CEOs who are pissed about the potential drop in their revenue from Medicaid cuts.
In fact, this bill has probably pissed off just about every CEO in the healthcare industry. Republicans never gave a shit about poor people, but when they start pissing off rich CEOs you know they’re in for a world of hurt. I honestly don’t know what McConnell was thinking when has crafted this bill. It’s political suicide for the GOP.
I think it only fair we reinfect the bastard with polio. At bare minimum, he needs to be handed a bill for every penny spent on his care … with 19.8% interest, marked “Pay Upon Receipt.” Just how old is Bitch?
[Sasse] criticized the bill for not fully repealing Obamacare’s regulations and noted, not inaccurately, that it is “largely a Medicaid reform package.”
Silly me and my old fashioned dictionary that think “reform” means the improvement or amendment of what is wrong, corrupt, unsatisfactory.
Republican Medicaid “reform” measures are a cruel oxymoron.
It is similar to shooting someone in the head and referring to it as cranial integrity reform.
It is phased in with rural state carve-outs. Waiting for Trump voter blowback is a fools errand.
Allowing the Klondike kick back is only a piece of the problem for Alaskans.A dramatic rise in the cost of premiums especially for the elderly will be hard to reckon. Alaska is one of the hardest hit even after premium support is included. Not sure the Murkowski would be good with this. This bill needs to pass with a clear majority of Republican Senators not one with Pence casting the tie breaking vote. Although McConnell would do just that.
I call Jeff Flake’s office every day. He won’t commit to the sun rising in the east. Arizona is one of those weird states, in that he’s terrified of being hit in a primary from the right, because the Arizona Republican Party is batshit insane, but the state as a whole is trending blue so fast that if he goes too far right, he will lose in the general. He’s a bad place, so maybe, just for novelty, he should do the right thing and see what happens.
And most of the super egregious stuff phases in after 2020 in the Senate version. just in time to miss the re-election of the class of 2012, ie Obama’s second election class in 2018. The Senate isn’t terribly concerned about 2018 election because almost no vulnerable Republicans are up. 2020 is different, because that’s a midterm class re-election. They have vulnerable members in that class. The House version stabs everyone after 2018 because everyone is up in 2018 there. It’s very possible that 2018 will be a bloodbath in the House and the Senate will actually get MORE Republican.
I’m starting to think the long game for Republicans is for the bill to fail so that they can pat themselves on the back for voting down a bad bill. Next year, Republicans running against Democratic incumbents can then say, “We need more Republicans in the Senate in order to pass a good bill.” They’ll completely ignore the fact that they could’ve passed something with only Republican votes and instead blame Democrats. It won’t work, but it’s a better strategy than passing this mess and living with the consequences.
I think they’re going to pass this with 50 votes, plus Pence, and give a pass to Heller and Flake, who are up for re-election in 2018. The reason the women are a big deal here is because if one of Collins, Murkowski or Capito won’t play ball, it eats up either Heller or Flake who really would be in huge danger of losing the seat next year with a yes vote. I think before you see that happen, the bill will get tabled.
Let’s go back to the days of paying for health care with a chicken or a pig - maybe a home-cooked meal that includes both. See how that works out.
