Discussion: Who’s Next? Kobach, Giuliani, Graham All Floated For Attorney General Post

There won’t (i hope) be any hearings about a new AG before January and Kobach likely would have serious problems getting confirmed. Graham on the other hand would get in.

Oh please oh please let it be Giuliani! Beyond the pure entertainment value, he’s the legal genius most likely to drill holes in the boat to let the water out.

What fatuous twaddle.

The GOP has a majority in the Senate. Democrats have very little power there, and cannot stop any of Trump’s nominations since the Republicans vote in lockstep for whatever McConnell puts forward.

It has fuck-all to do with either Pelosi or Schumer. And since Pelosi is the House Minority Leader, she has nothing at all to do with confirmations in the first place.

Your constant whining about Democrats shows only that you are woefully ignorant of how Congress works and determined to remain so.

The aspect of this that bothers me is as I understand it there are statutes dictating the chain of possession, handling, release, etc of the findings of the Special Counsel. Many fantasize about Mueller dumping it all onto a few thumb drives and delivering it to a Dem Congressman or the NYTimes. If that isn’t legal I’m sure Mueller would be loathe to do it. Both for ethical reasons and the exposure to criminal charges. Now I hear the alternative is for the Dem House to have him testify in open session about it all, revealing whatever Trump attempts to quash. I imagine that’ll turn into a quagmire of court filings and legal battles.

I guess somehow it all comes out, but if it’s before a committee led by Democrats, and Trump has spent a few weeks debasing and denigrating Mueller before it happens, the effect of the reveal will surely be muted and ignored by many.

I think this may end not with a bang, but with a whimper.

I think that will indeed be the goal – a slow walk into a foggy oblivion. But are there any legal minds on the president’s side who are capable of the maneuvering and strategizing it would take to pull that off? I mean, there may well be – just not seeing it in his current lineup.

Donald sure has a deep bench…

If I have learned one thing in the Trump era, it’s to be more circumspect in my predictions. So I’ll refrain from confidently declaring that this outcome will never happen. It could. (Similarly I’ve been wondering recently if what finally takes Trump down is not Russia or his racism or his corrupt ness but something much more conventional like the economy going south. It’s possible even if I am still inclined to doubt it.)

But one thing that gives me hope are the reports coming out that Whitaker is not the sharpest tool in the shed. I doubt that he is going to come up with clever ways to suppress Mueller’s findings. Hopefully going with the obvious and unsubtle won’y work. More importanly, I think the most important thing in the end will be the indictments and not the final report. I don’t think Whitaker is going to be able to stop those.

Pam Bondi, the Florida AG, has also been mentioned.

Truly cringeworthy.

Well, the visuals are better, perhaps…

Shouldn’t Kobach be in class taking that remedial lawyering thingy seriously? How will appointing him sit with the judge? Can we all sue to make sure he knows what the fuck the law is?

I suggest changing ‘basket’ to largest public storage locker one can rent.

What, no Jeanine Pirro?

Can you take that some place else. You’re playing a kazoo in the Met guy. Wrong folks in here. No one “leads the Senate” to anything. Now off with you and your concern trolling. There’s some warm borscht in the kitchen and it’s a rare sunny day in Moscow.

And Trump owes her for stopping the Trump U investigation in Florida. I think she’s it.

I vote for Lindsay Graham as that would be the smoothest transition for the Justice Department. I mean, can anyone really tell the difference between Lindsay Graham and Jeff Sessions?

Tops and bottoms can be blurred sometimes.

With Kobach’s losing record in courts across the country, I am pretty much thinking he is not “the winner” Trump would choose.

Lindsay is taller and doesn’t have those ears that stick out.
