It’s not like he was handing out confederate flag temporary tattoos… it’s summer, it’s a holiday, it’s the South: EVERYONE eats watermelon!

I agree. I suppose he could have held a fish-fry or a “spaghetti supper,” but unless there’s more to the story than reported here, everyone should have just enjoyed the danged melon.

I love water melon and am on a diet and can eat as much as I want and not gain weight. I think the white lawmaker is in the right on this one.

Exactly! Everybody likes watermelon, it’s summer, and it’s a perfectly healthy treat to share with his constituents. Jarvis Dortch needs to sit all the way down.

Oh, this is just stupid.
People are supposed to eat refrigerator magnets or emery boards? Maybe pot holders?
This is just stupid.

I don’t see racism, but if the black guy running for office wants to “get even”, maybe he should give away corn-on-the-cob to toothless white people.

I have one in my refrigerator right this moment.

Seriously, all you want??? There is lots of sugar in watermelon. I love it too and could live on it but it is very bloating !

Sounds like you have been eating the red part.

It is without a doubt THE best way to hydrate in the summer, you won’t get thirsty on a hot day if you eat watermelon. Harvey and Marilyn Diamond covered this well in their book Fit for Life in the 80’s, and it is just a fact. Trust me, if you have a lot of outside work to do on a hot day, eat some watermelon instead of drinking water, and you will not get thirsty. Water passes through, watermelon hydrates.

That’s what always cracked me up about the black watermelon jokes. If black people were eating watermelon while working in the fields in the south during slave days, that actually showed they were SMART.

Horseshit. Watermelon is an everyday thing here in the South. From what I hear its just as popular up North. Its sold in every grocery store…are they racist? It’s sold on the side of the road…is that racist?

Enough of this. If that asshole wants to advance the rights and lives of Blacks in America…good for him. But just because he is Black he does not have the right to accuse someone of racism…over a fucking watermelon. Give it a bit more thought…and isn’t that position…he must be a racist because he’s handing out watermelon…just a tad racist itself? Fuck the asshole…I hope he loses.

One could wish that 19th and 20th century racist asswipes could have chosen less delicious and ubiquitous foods than fried chicken and watermelon to inexplicably turn into racist symbols. Why, oh why, couldn’t they have gone with some more polarizing foods like okra or persimmons or kale?

Plenty of other melons out there…May I recommend an Indiana muskmelon? Like a cantaloupe in taste but they have a particular, some find unpleasant stink…
