Discussion: White House Waives Jones Act For Puerto Rico To Help Get Island Aid

Should have been a no-brainer.

Oh, wait a moment, who am I talking about here?

This a bit of closing the barn door after the horse has scarpered.

However, if it gets those poor folks in Puerto Rico help, I’m willing to hold back my criticism – for now.

In the meantime, Royal Caribbean cancelled a cruise and is sending the big liner down with supplies and will return with people fleeing the devastation. Good on them.

Only a week late, Dumblefuck.

It was a no-brainer. That’s why it took a week.

I hadn’t read/seen/heard that - about Royal Caribbean. Indeed, good on them.

And only after it was raised by the press - and the comparisons made to Houston and Florida started a flood of items (in news, and on social media) about the horrendous situation/difference in treatment, and Katrina comparisons. Then, and only then did he act.

'bout damn time.

Did someone actually talks some sense into him or did the wind just change from north-north-west to southerly?

If someone would’ve just explained to President White that Puerto Rico means/translates to Rich Port in English, he might’ve gotten off of twitter a week ago and helped.

Trounce needed a refresher course obviously on exactly who Americans are, where they are and what all these foreign sounding names are about.

The ‘Jones’ Act started to sound familiar to him I’d imagine.

About time. But there’s more to do, and a smart, responsible administration would already have been doing it. From what I’ve read the biggest problem for the moment isn’t getting supplies to the island, it’s that the roads and delivery systems are so messed up that supplies are piling up in San Juan for lack of a way to move them where they’re needed. I imagine big cargo helicopters could help, but another issue here is that the military is stretched thin in Afghanistan and elsewhere. Pointless to say it but Hillary’s people could have addressed this a billion times better. : (

Betcha 20 bucks Kelly told him images of starving American children would hurt his poll standings.

Well, God’s wrath would have spared the US, if Hillary had been elected.

You can hardly blame God for being fed up.

I’m expecting 7 plagues if Moore is elected to the Senate.

Now how hard was that Donnie? It was a dick move not to do it right away but at least it’s waived now. Honest to God, do you people ever even THINK of consequences to your off the cuff remarks or decisions???

I guess the ship owners finally gave him permission to waive the Jones Act.

That’s good. There are also 3,000 container ships in the port with supplies that haven’t been unloaded. Is this due to a lack of electricity for cranes?

Lack of electricity, trucks to carry the supplies and roads to navigate on. They were devastated. Maybe they need drones…

Give Trump a break. There was a crisis in the NFL that he had to tweet about.

Local media has ramped up reporting the intolerable conditions in PR. They’ve been discussing the Jones Act. The even more inept than Katrina mantra scared the hell out of someone in the WH.

Yes, and he was getting hit from all sides.

BTW, Stephanie Ruhle, Steve Kornacki and another financial guy (edit: Brendan Greeley) just trashed the latest tax cut offering in an earlier segment, noting that tax cuts for corporations have not resulted in investment in the economy. And when Reagan did it, it was a different economy then, so it’s like going back to the pump for more water when the well is empty. Also, republican voters are now more blue collar, and they’re not going to like these cuts once they get the actual details.

Trump says he and others like him will not benefit from these cuts. Effing liar.
